Got a guy who’s selling me a new set of nitto trail grapplers. They were too big for his truck and ended up damaging the thread on a tire. He took them off immediately. Is this tire any good or will I have issues with it? Thanks. 5C5345EE-F0BE-45F2-AABF-2EE378D5499A.jpg

Looks fine to me. I’ve taken chunks out of many tires and it doesn’t really concern me as long as it’s not down to the cords.

Just make sure there’s not huge chunks missing or lugs that are flapping.

Personally I would pass, not worth my family's safety over cost savings...who knows how weak that block is it might just chunk off who knows?

Yeah, my concern would be a bumpier ride or excessive noise.

Can you put eyes on them before you buy? The pictures you showed don’t look too bad. How good is the deal?

I hear what you’re saying but from the pictures he showed it looks superficial. My tires have looked somewhat like that after a good off road trip. Obviously not exactly like that. NIttos are a good tire, I don’t think those look like potential failure points because of a few scratches. But that’s me.

See if you can get them for a little cheaper since you will not be able to warranty them. Then go buy a fifth tire and use the chunked up one for the spare.

Or possibly see if the owner has road hazard warranty and he could maybe go have it exchanged before the sale.

That block looks like normal off-road use if I go out on a hard trail. Doesn't look to deep of a tear, I wouldn't be worried about it.. How are the rest of the tires? If it's just 1 or 2 tires, I would pull the trigger and not think twice...

Basically getting new tires at a good price!

One other tire has a little rubbing but not as bad as the one I posted. Tires are new.

Personally I wouldn't sweat it. I've done worse in the woods. If you think it's a good deal, take some $ off address your concerns and go for it. They don't look bad on my end.

For only $400 less? I’d go new. Then you can get a warranty if you wanted to.

What you may not see is the broken belt in the tire that will make it wobble....
