What sucks is I have several hunting/firearm mag subscriptions. I'm getting so tired, bored actually, about all the easy corn fed white tail deer hunting in all these mags. You actually have to get off your ass to get a Mule deer. No tree stand/blind BS. I humped my 60 year old ass all day yesterday to bag one f##king grouse at 11,000ft. My legs are still strong. I out pace "kids" 30 years younger than me and I love beer and smoke a few cigs.

Example: First pic self explanatory. Second pic is my all time favorite mag. How much more to you need to read about white tail hunting??? Chamber a round.Walk to the edge of a corn field... Shoot. Been reading the second mag since I was twelve. F-F-G is good just because of the cover art.

I used to get quite a few magazines but not anymore. Just too pricey to keep up. Every once in a while I'll pick up a magazine but mostly now a days I just go back and read the good stuff that has been put into books, like from Jack O'Conner:

Try Ebay for those old mags you used to read. I've purchased a "lot"", ie: several years worth of Western Horseman, True Treasure, Argosy, Old West, etc. it's cool to get old mags in real good shape that you read as a kid. (and pass them on to grand kids, wait.... have your grand kids read them while you are still breathing)

Post buck pics. "Sask" is a big province. Big back door. Don't forget Cheezies to snack on while hunting. eh  ( I'd bet your Sask bucks are pretty well fed) You get geese/ducks? Looks like perfect area for water fowl hunting too.

I agree on the magazine thing. I was at the dealer yesterday getting some work done on the truck and stumbled upon about 20 deer hunting magazines. They just repeat themselves, overcomplicate actual hunting, and have unrealistic racks' for most of the general country.

Mule vs. whitetail is a touchy subject though!
each can be challenging, but let's be honest. While a lot of whitetail hunters just sit on the edge of a cornfield, Most people that hunt mule deer just ride around on ATV's, glass the valley's and shoot whatever they find without hardly ever walking a step. I've seen it many times first hand.
I will say bow hunting whitetail is hard, but bow hunting mule deer is nearly impossible.

Good points. It's also important to realize that not all whitetail hunting is created equal. Hunting whitetail in the wilderness of Idaho and Montana is nothing like hunting them in the South.

    Agreed!

I read an article a few years back about how the majority of people in the west are really upset that whitetails are moving in. They think they are going to move Mule's out (which mule's population have been struggling the past few years).
...I'm not sure if any of the complainers have ever tasted a whitetail before. It sure beats mule deer!

Just got back from a couple weeks north of the arctic circle in Alaska. Retired from guiding up there a few years ago but still go back a couple of times each year to hunt for ourselves.

All valid points for sure. I never got caught up in the whitetail vs mule deer thing. Pointless. Quite frankly although smaller, I think western Oregon/Washington blacktail deer taste the best.Taste depends on what the deer eat. I've taken Mules that fed off alfalfa. Quite tasty. I've also taken Mules where no atv could possibly ever get to. Miles up into rim rock to get the big ones. There's always going to be road/atv hunters where ever you go. I've hunted whitetail. A lot of fun. I just prefer hunting out west where you can get away from the crowd.

Hunting Mules or Whitetails in Montana is not easy.Unless you can shoot 1000 yds. 3500 acres No trucks or atvs, just your own feet and horses to git them back to camp. I will be in the Bears Paw Mountains, Montana on the 19th of October and I,m turning 60 this month

Nice! Make sure to share some pics when you get back, would love to see them. I'll be back in the Selway/Bitterroot of Idaho for 10 days beginning October 24.

All upland for me, grouse, chukar, and ptarmigan now, pheasant soon. I used to call elk for my brother during archery season, but his kids grew up and now do it for him ;)
