I don't yet have a safari rack, but I have the rails and cross bars installed. If you do get them installed be sure to get rails installed, and not just have the feet installed into your roof. Installing the rails allows you to first move the positioning of the cross bars for multiple applications, but also distributes the load more evenly on the roof, which makes for a safer and more secure load.

I don't have the best images right now, but this should give you an idea. I use it with a hitch extender to carry a 17' canoe and a pair of kayaks, but I did want to get a basket for camping goodness. I got the Rhino Rack because it's aluminum and comes with locks already (Thule and Yakima are plastic and you need to pay extra for locks).

    Hope this helps!

Thanks fellas! All great info... I've been doing my research over the last few months and I'm going with the Rhino Rack, with a go rhino safari rack.

Do you have a cost on the bars? I am looking at Yakima bars for a roof top tent in the furtue. Let me know how you like yours. I have a Crewmax not a DC

I have a Crewmax too. The full system, installed, was around $850.

I chose Rhino because they are aluminum and come with locks by default. The Yakima bars are plastic and you pay additional for locks.

Backslider, I'm sure the Yakima cross bars are a plastic coated steel bars or else they couldn't support the loads they do. They do look plastic if you don't remove the end caps.

They are just plastic, even the rack and road guys will tell you that. They do make an aluminum bar but you pay a premium for it.

Having owned Yakima bars and rack systems and worked in bike shops, last time I checked, they're steel with a plastic sleeve/coating.
    Just trying to help.
    :)
