Yup! And it will keep going up until gas prices rise and cause another mpg panic like the early 2000’s

Thankfully mine is almost paid off... and is....
    Wait for it....

    A Toyota.

Someday I might actually be forced to repair it, but when I do, it's Denso.

I'm in no rush for super cruise, and all that crap. It starts, it runs, it tows, it reliable... Enough said.

It's why I bought used, someone else paid the new truck price, plus depreciation. Sure, its not new, but man I got a deal on it and at 6,000 miles a year give or take, it won't wear out any time soon.

And because in the last 10 years, everyone expects trucks to have all the comfort and luxury of cars. If we could buy "just a truck", a bunch of us would have paid a lot less.

Agreed! The problem with the rising cost as well is it's getting harder for the average blue collar small business guy to go buy a new truck. They are outpacing people wages with these truck prices.

    Same here!

I'd have gotten it. The "extra" that I didn't want to do without was the 38-gallon tank. Which, IMO, should be a stand alone "just a truck" option. Or in combo with the towing package, not seat configuration.

I so wish they had the 38gal on the lower trim levels. My truck is my work truck for my business I wasn't going to go up in trim level to get a bunch of stuff I didn't need for the 38gal. If anything the lower model Sr and sr5 trims should be the ones it comes standard on, more people tend to use those trim levels as work trucks and could benefit from the added tank capacity.

I agree. But this probably wasn't a mistake buy a marketing decision. People but Tundras for realibility. And people willing to hold on to the same truck for years are often people that need "use" of a truck. So if all the "needs" were available in the base model, probably many fewer customers would upgrade to higher trims. As I understand it, the profit is in the trim option extras.

THIS^^^^^Tariffs are having a minimal effect on overall cost of full size trucks. A truck used to be sheet metal and an engine and 4 tires....now a bunch of nannies, not necessarily bad, and creature comforts unheard of in a truck back in the day.

    They do.

Exactly. One of the big reasons trucks have gotten so expensive, IMO. People have to have all of the latest tech, luxury leather, power ass wipe, etc.

People always quote the higher-end price tags when bitching about the price of trucks. I recently was thinking about getting a 3/4 or 1 ton Ram with a Cummins. Most people were shaking their head at me saying "can't believe you are going to pay $70-$80K for a truck". I wasn't going to. You can get a Tradesman or Big Horn trim package for far less. I had a Big Horn scoped out for about $47K. Still a stupid price - but not even close to these stupid "luxury" pickup trucks. WTF? It's a truck for crying out loud.

They do. Almost every brand offers a stripped-down "work truck" trim. A new Tundra SR can be had for right around $30k, but then everyone complains that it doesn't have any features or a big beast of an engine. If you want to pay 2005 prices you gotta be ready for 2005 technology—you can't have it both ways!

Sr isn't really a stripped down trim anymore, it now has all the TSS stuff etc. I priced a 2019 SR a month ago with 5.7 and its msrp was 39k...my sr5 in 2017 was msrp 37k. Stripped down work truck should be none of the extras, just what ya need Imo.

I could see that, but jeez at this point the profit should be in the whole truck lol with how old the platform is.

This is a primary driver. 30 years ago, what was an average car loan, 3 years?

Nowadays 6 is average in the country. That’s insane. The word “payment” had replaced “price”

My 1794 was literally 22k more than what I got my SR5 DC for brand new in 2008.

I wanted those luxury features though :)

I believe it, I bought my 2008 used in 2011. It was 3 years old, had 40k miles, 4.7L,4x4, but it was a plain package. I paid right at $25k. Now for that same "type" of truck with similar specs is easily $30k or more.
