Not sure if 10 minutes is enough time for exhaust to get hot enough or not. In freezing weather, maybe, hard to say. Not sure how they rule out electrical issues.

Glad everyone is safe, and you got compensated.

We have had a couple unexplained fires in the past few years. Most just assume it was electrical.

Let’s do a test shall we? I’m goin to idle my work F250 for 10 min and get some data for you fine people.

We really thought it would have been the remote starter but when I talked with my rep from Progressive he said the inspector was certain that it was a small leak of oil to the manifold. I love my Tundras but I almost went the way of a 19 f250 4dr 6.2. For around $38,000

Pics of mine when it first started to leak, it drops onto the heat shield. They have the manifolds shielded pretty well.

A member (hvac24) just sent me a link for a class action lawsuit on our situation so I'll be talking with them soon. Just need to get my paperwork together on this.

By the pictures above it would depend where the leak would drop as to whether or not the oil would drip on the heat shield or manifold.

Yes. Ran for 8 minutes. Ambient temp is 19*F, snowing and winds are gusting to 22 mph.

So exhaust manifold temps can get up to 1200 or more. It is absolutely possible to start a fire on an exhaust manifold.

Synthetic oil (good brands) flashes between 400-440*F, some flash a bit lower and this is why some oils have more consumption.

Ok I found our solution. we need to make sure we all have our trucks left in one piece but proof of the fire starting at the manifold. I seen this on Amazan.
BlazeCut Automatic Fire Suppression System 9' TV300FA, Automotive Extinguisher maybe this thing would stop the fires well enough so we could take our trucks to the investigators then news outlets for some kind of permanent repairs. Any thoughts on this extinguisher?

I could see a cam tower leak being the cause if you were driving around romping on it, or pulling a grade towing a trailer when if lit up... but idling... I’m having a hard time with that idea. If it was, sorry about your shitty luck. Heck, even that it wasn’t the cause, sorry about your shitty luck.

I'm thinking the leak would have to be pretty bad as well. I have only seen a couple severe cases on here.

Wow! If this is truly from the cam tower leak good job Toyota this is a slap in the face to all owners who have had this leak. I guess they might do something about it when someone dies.

The worst part about all this is my truck showed not even a trace of leaking any fluids.

The cold temps and age could have affected the seal as well, making it smaller or shrink and cause to leak more oil. Theoretically.

The bricks saved the side but the flames made in through the plastic soffit and was just getting to the roof when the fire department got it put out. The only thing that saved our Corvette was that morning we had freezing rain and the cover on the vette had 1/4 thick layer of ice and it was still a light rain or it would have been gone also.

I guess my Tundra will be staying outside, I have to fold the mirrors anyway to fit it in the garage. It reminded me of my 62 oldsmobile that went up in flames. This was worse tho.

    Glad you are safe tho!
