Just want to say thanks for this forum and this thread. It gave me the confidence to install a 1.75” Rough Country Leveling Kit and Goodyear Kevlar 285 60 R20’s.
I’ll get you a before/after pic soon, but until then, here it is with the lift and new tires.

@1goalkeeper looks great? Do you feel the difference? How much did you end up paying?

I can feel a slight difference, but the ride feels good. I was worried about going from a P to a LT tire being more stiff/rough but it’s not really noticeable. I feel a bit taller on the road, and I definitely can’t see over the hood as well. I was also worried about the larger tires making it harder to park, but no issues and no rubbing.
The kit was only $100 from Rough Country, but the installers had some trouble getting the holes lined up, had to shave the metal a bit and had to charge me for some extra labor to install. The Kevlar tires are expensive, but I’ve got mesquite at the ranch and crappy Houston roadways to deal with. I paid a little under $2000 for the kit, tires, install and alignment labor.

@1goalkeeper not bad on price. I’m from the lower Texas region the valley. Trying to figure out where to get the install at. We have several places hopefully within next couple of months get that work done.

@Kirkulese did you do a 1” on the back or just the 3” in the front?

That's the same leveling kit i had put on mine. So does that size tire rub anywhere? That's the size i want to go with.

I just did 3” in the front. Didn’t touch the back. Just did my 2019 as well. 20x9 with +20 offset. 35x12.5 trail grapplers

It had a little rubbing up front when turning the wheel in reverse, but the installer just pushed the front mudflap in with a screw

Could you possibly take a picture of the front tire up close from the side? I'd like to see how much room you have.

That's good and all but do you guys think a 285/60/20 would work? 1.6" taller and are 0.4" wider.

Scroll up and look at my posts - I did the 285 60 R20’s (with a 1.75” leveling kit on the front). I don’t think they would fit without the leveling kit.

I didn't do the install myself, but the tire shop who installed mine said they were rubbing even with the 1.75" leveling kit, and that they had to screw the mud flaps in a little tighter to prevent the rub. So I suspect a 1" lieveli g kit will have more rubbing

Sorry if this has been answered above but I looked pretty thoroughly and not seeing much about the other effects of changing tire sizes.

Im wanting to go from 275 / 55/ 20 to 275 / 60 / 20 and while I have no concerns about the fit, I’m worried about it throwing off my shifting/ ratios etc because my trans is probably already on its last leg so I don’t want to do *anything* to upset it in any way... and those speedo recalibrators are like $200 so that’s not a great solution either.

Thoughts? Is this slight difference enough to damage my trans if I don’t do a recalibration? I’m not concerned about the speedo or odo being a few miles off (I’m at 226k miles so that’s the least of my worries) but I am concerned about the trans getting incorrect info

why kind of recalibration are you talking about that affects the transmission? the speedometer recalibraters only affect what the speedometer shows and has nothing to do with the transmission. if your transmission is that bad, you will be better off fixing it than spending the money on a new set of tires :)

however, your speedometer will be more accurate with 275/60/20's. I went from 275/55/20 to 295/55/20 and now my speedometer is dead-on. (verified with GPS).

@Netmonkey so you have any photos of your truck with the tires? Did you have to remove any mud flaps ect?

I only had to remove the front spat. 295/55/20 on 20x9 +50mm offset.

Pardon my ignorance but I thought the speedo somehow affected the trans shifting or something but I guess I’m way off base. So forget speedo but I know I’ve read where changing tires can definitely affect trans operation, no?

It’s not that my trans is terrible it’s just that with over 200k on it I’m leery of doing anything that might have the slightest negative effect on it!

yeah, the speedometer calibrators connect to the instrument cluster and change the reading of the speedometer only. they do nothing for the transmission. larger and heavier tires do take more power to turn and can affect your gearing, but it doesn't change the operation of the transmission. larger and heavier tires can put more strain on the driveline, but you are only talking about going to a 275/60/20, so it is not that bad. usually, if you stay under a 35 inch tire, you dont have to worry too much about the power loss and the strain on the driveline. its once you get into the 37 inch tires and above that people tend to regear.

    That doesn't make any sense.
You run 10 cent valve stem caps on your $40,000 truck.

Every spacer lift is basically the same thing. I bought my first one used for 25 bucks off Craigslist and ran it for 100000 miles with no issues. What’s the problem.
