what kind of receiver hitch lock are y’all using? I’m guessing I need a class 5 lock. My class 4 is too short. I would like one in the photo but it needs to be longer 74141655-5924-400D-8137-EB2D0CF56685.jpg

The last one i had with keys rusted up and could not get it off. I had to take a hammer to it

Toyota sells a hitch lock that uses the truck key?

No but Bolt does. I had one on my Tacoma that locked up. Bolt replaced for free so I saved it for Tundra. Just need to remove now and then and grease pin. ? Is is $50 hitch lock worth it not to have to carry extra key. If Toyota sold it would be twice that

I had someone steal a bumper mounted 2" ball at DFW airport parking. Went to replace and I think I found out why they might have stolen it. I went to 3 places to find the right one.

Definitely the way to go for sure! One of the best "cheap upgrades" I made to my truck. Only downside is I have to turn the truck off so that I have the key to swap hitches when needed occasionally.

A question about the Bolt lock. I love the idea but I put my hitch on before I leave for work and take it off when I get home. I park in the garage so I have to remove the hitch so it will fit.
. Do you think It could cause excessive wear on my key over time doing this twice a day every day?

I would not think so, the lock actually feels like it has just a bit more play than the ignition plus it is really easy to turn.

My class 4 didn't seem long enough and wouldn't lock which I found odd because the bar clears the width, so I removed the end and grinded it down 1/8". The lip is still there and it doesn't affect the lock mechanism below the lip, now it works.

Read reviews, some of them fail requiring you to cut the lock or hammer it off, like the Master Lock 1469DAT:

I have been searching for a good one as well. Seen too many videos where someone snaps them off in a few seconds with a piece of pipe. Like prostar190, I have a $250 hitch and don't want to take a chance. As of now, I just never leave it on the truck unless actually using it. Curious if anyone knows of any good anti theft ones as well.

I bought the Bolt lock and I hate it. The lock is so big that it blocks access for safety chains. Unfortunately it is now keyed to my rig, making it worthless for anyone else, can’t even give it to a friend.

When fishing and a boat trailer is left at a boat ramp, thieves can (and do) sometimes steal the trailer by breaking either the lock on the receiver or the lock on the hitch. It happens everywhere boat trailers live, some worth thousands. It surely ain’t to steal a $20 receiver or insert

Technically illegal here to leave your hitch in if your not towing. Most of the time the cops don't bother, but they can use it as an excuse to pull you over, and you can be sited in case of an accident, so I usually just pull mine if I'm not towing

I gave up on these. I've never had one that didn't rust and get stuck on there, which is beyond frustrating. I just use the regular old hitch pin now.

Perhaps I should try the stainless Master Lock.

Yep. This was the main reason I used to use the locks.

This Masterlock one has been on my truck 24/7 in the rain and snow since 2016, I was able to still get it off last week:
    5CA86A8D-C962-43A3-AB0F-52238395F521.jpg

It’s not pretty but still functional. I imagine if I took it inside during the winter months when it’s not being used it would look a whole lot better.

I had to wiggle it a bit to loosen up the rust and corrosion, but I didn’t need any tools which is pretty decent considering what I see other people going through when removing theirs.

This is the product page: Master Lock 2866DATSC Swivel Head... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0009V1WS4?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
