sour dough starter is about 3 years old. This is a 2 day process.
I’m pretty happy about this end result. Always wanted to learn how to do this and now I’m retired, I can learn some new stuff. Beer brewing is on the horizon too..

Looks great! Brings back smells of my grandma's kitchen. Her and Grandpa both baked goodies

Looks awesome. There is nothing like homemade bread, actually it's probably one of the main reasons I married my wife. ;)

She has a starter that's been living in our fridge since I can remember and we've been together over 20 years. Makes a great sourdough pancake with it.

The yeast stays alive as long as you care for it and feed it with fresh flour. Some have been active for over 100 years, passed down and passed around. This starter comes from my DIL who got it from a friend in Portland a few years ago.
When you make your bread it just takes about a cup to build the gluten and make it ready for the oven. Does that make any sense?

    I’ll take some bread

Not to jack your thread , but I bottled my first batch of home brew a couple of weeks ago. My son filling bottles.

Jack away! We were so unprepared for the produce this first year we threw away probably 400 lbs of pears and about the same of apples. Am planning to get a cider press and get into cider next summer!

That is, yeast cells can reproduce and a colony can be kept “alive” indefinitely. Active yeast cells divide or die pretty quickly.

    Nice bread, btw!

Man, that would make one helluva grilled cheese :hungry:. Artisan bread is my weakness. Has anyone ever had beer bread? Bought a loaf at Harris Teeter, and one of the best breads I have ever tasted. I'll take a loaf :D

Sweet. Have very low expectations for this batch. I didn’t know what I didn’t know so I don’t believe this is gonna be good. Worst case scenario is it’s my learning lessons batch.
