I have a 2005, 282 HP 4.7L i-Force V8 w/VVT-i Engine. Bought it new, has very low mileage and love it. The way the tailgate “drops” when opening has become a hazard to myself and others. Please recommend some sort of shock assist in the lowering of the tailgate. My research has turned up nothing for this year, make and model. Thanks much.

Crazy that people haven't died from them since the 40's.

Look up Dee Zee tailgate assist.

The real danger is that I've gotten so accustomed to my tailgate that every other tailgate I open becomes a hazard. I pop the lever and let go.....BANG.

I was showing off my 2007 the night I bought it and knew about the damper, I popped the tailgate and it slammed down. Apparently the shock can wear out..

I do it on friends trucks, work trucks, all of the above. My brain can't process it fast enough, I know I'm doing it the second I let go of the handle. I can't ever have a standard tailgate again.

    Not nearly enough room here!
I blew my Damper out by putting a 1/4" Rubber Mat on the Tailgate. Didn't take it long to do it in. Bought one from E-Bay at Lift Supports .com, it's American Made and replaces , OEM Stock item # PM 7066. Cost me $60.

Yeah bud. Nothing fits our 1st Gens in regards to the slow strut. I’ve looked in the past and even tried to conjure up how to retrofit one, but its too tight a space to fit the strut body. Only thing I can think is to cut out a section of the gate frame side rib and mount the closer inside the gate itself.

    Alas, too much work.
