So my wife and I are looking to head to mojave rd west. Or just Mojave desert in general. If you’ve been on the west side there before how was it? Any crazy obstacles that I need to worry about? Also, if you’ve driven all the Mojave west east or central, which is the best overall trail? I only have a weekend there so want to make sure I pick the right trail.

One of the best trips we've made. We did the entire Road, and camped out overnight (you can do the whole thing in a day, but don't. You'll miss too much stuff). Just awesome.

We did it in a Raptor and there wasn't anything that scared us in that truck. Road narrows in some spots (cactus closes in on ya), and we ended up with some "desert striping" as a result, but I dont think the narrower Tundra would have any issue.

This was our bible thru the trip: https://www.desertusa.com/web_cart/db/pages/5094.html. Good info in there, that highlights lots of the stuff you might otherwise drive right on by.

We plan to do it again in the Tundra, and bring some friends along. Just need to make the time.

Found a couple vids I took back in the day. Should give you a good idea.

This one was the end of day two. Honestly I can't remember if we went west to east or vise versa, but either way you can get a feel for the terrain. In this one we hit some pretty crazy speeds (80+mph). Don't recommend that in the Tundra, unless its setup as a prerunner like we had the Raptor. Also you'll see lots of water in this vid, including a pretty deep wash crossing at the end. This was just after they'd had epic rains down there. I doubt you'll see anything like this; we were told those rains were a once in a generation kind of thing.

Thank you. We’re looking forward to going there. Definitely not worried about any stripes. Got some already, but nothing major. My dogs don’t have very good sea legs so no speeding for me on trails. We were planning on doing one of the trails a day in the app. Just finished watching the videos. Doesn’t seem like anything I can’t handle. The water crossing looks fun.

Very cool. Yeah that water crossing was interesting. We got out and scouted before trying it and we were both kinda on the fence. Made it thru no problem, obviously, but the pucker factor was in full effect :D

At the end of that first vid you can see someone spotting for us on the right. Didn't even really need that but better safe that sorry with these long wheelbases. And as I recall, that was the only time we felt that way. Everything else was good to go. Hell, I think we spent most of the time in 2WD.

Let us know how it goes!

We ran Central and West a couple of years ago. Great trip. Nothing on there that was difficult at all. The water crossing was about 3’ deep though. If it happens to rain, just be careful of soft lakebeds. And try to find this cave.

I wonder if that water crossing is usually that high. I’m excited to go cause I can finally try my follow feature on my drone. I’ve had it for a couple years now and usually just take it out when parked and take pics here and there. I’ll post some pics and videos when I actually go. We were planning on March. All depending on weather. Thank you for the info.

March/April is a good time to go. I think that water crossing is usually that deep. We went in June and it was 115* everyday and it was still that deep. And I think we were still in the drought. Do the rear diff breather mod if you haven’t.

Good call Joon. We'd made that mod to our Raptor. I'll need to check it out for the Tundra.

@Jimes are you going to T2Sedona? I think the Bastrds are going this year if you want to caravan with us.

Perfect. I did the diff breather mod already. We figured as much with the summer temps. As for T2Sedona I’m not sure. I would have to find out when and see if I could get the time off from work. Haven’t done that trip yet either.
