I had an ARE Z series on my 2006 Tundra. Their top of the line. Decided to get another cap for my 2017. ARE was 8-10 weeks lead time. LEER was 17-21 days. Went with LEER XL, and have regretted it ever since. ARE so much higher in quality I hate I wasn't patient enough for the ARE. Both side windows leaked on the LEER and had to be removed and resealed. Fiberglass not even close to comparing in quality and finish. Inside the LEER - carpet installation on sides and roof no comparison. ARE hands down.

I have even contemplated selling the LEER and getting the ARE, but I just hate to take the coin loss.

YMMV, but LEER quality not even close to ARE in my comparison.

I'm waiting to find a used cap locally since I'm too cheap to fork out $2K.

Nothing wrong with that if you can find one that fits your truck.

Just got an ARE CX series cap installed. This is my third truck with an ARE and always have been happy with them. The carpet headliner and LED dome light were free additions, and I got the fold down rear window. Just over $1800 until I added a Yakima Jet Stream rack which upped the price a bit. Couldn’t be happier.9C8EED0E-1E71-4FFB-8759-882B5DAC1ECC.jpg

I feel like I’m getting overquoted locally as well, this is for an ARE-Z series, they want $2500, what do you guys think?

You’d easily spend more $$ for that cap in the SE PA area.

Depending on what options you selected, that is right in line with my area dealer. My quote was $2400+ and really only had 1 or 2 options.

That seems about right to me as well. I looked at both CX and Z. Z would have been too much $$ with what I wanted as well. Very happy with the CX.

Ya agreed. When I mentioned $3,000 for a Z series it was what I was quoted. I ended up going CX too.

The ARE Z series I got for my 2006 Tundra DC was just shy of $2k in 2006 when I got it. Late 2018 pricing of an ARE Z for my 2017 CM was roughly $2400+ for same options.
Prices, material prices, have gone up through the years.

I took it back to my dealer and had them put two layers of tape down and it’s since fixed the problem.

3/1 leveling kit, 35x12.5 Thunderer TracGrips. I have since switched to Falken Wildpeak 295/70/18s...much quieter and about the same height, just a bit narrower.

i have an ARE, I think it's a CX. Great cap but the rear window leaks when it rains. I think I need to remove the thing and totally re-seal it. I took the hanging toolbox out that was in there because I don't use it for work anymore and prefer the bed space. The windoors are the greatest thing about it. Having access to both sides of the bed is crucial.

I just ordered a CX Evolve. I paid $2,956 out the door with the following options:
    - Windoors
    - Front sliding/fold down window

I am in Michigan. I paid $1700 for basically the same cap in 2015......

Wow!.. prices are ridiculous now…thought I over paid…. Paid $2800 out the door for an Evolve last year… had some quality issues with the back window… seemed to be resolved now… took’em a few try’s…. No leaks yet though… I think I would look for used and paint to match if I had to buy today.

    Tried that :)
The problem is that the price of used and paint are also way up.

I had an ARE Overland shell on my Tacoma and got it again for my Tundra. ARE is great, and I've had zero issues with either cap. I always recommend them to people.

Yeah.. I think you made a good call going with the CX for longevity…. My back window fell off a couple of times.. they said they had a glue problem supply chain issue.…:notsure: probably a quality control issue:eek2:…. It’s a love hate thing… love the one hand opening… don’t understand why they can’t just bolt the hinge’s if you don’t care about the clean look. I just wanted the one handle… I think I’ll probably have to pay to it re-glued in the future..
Windoors are a must..worth every penny.. save my old knees from crawling in and the dogs love the air flow.E26DC523-E252-4E14-BCD6-FD6EDF4CE1BD.jpg

Had an ARE Z on my Tacoma, luckily came with the truck when I bought it pre-owned. I loved the look, very sleek, matched the lines of the truck, and it never leaked, the only thing was the rear window handle/latch plastic housing had developed a hairline crack from lifting the glass. PO had installed a second small, flimsy metal handle below it which I replaced with something more robust and solved that problem. The other thing was the lack of ventilation when camping/sleeping in the bed. I knew for my next truck I wanted windoors for easier access and better ventilation. Stuck with ARE and ordered one for the Tundra around April(?) this year and finally got it late September. Went with the CX evolve this time around thinking the one piece rear glass would look like the Z and cleanly match the rear of the shell.

Few details that I’m a little picky about:
#1 The rear glass does not perfectly match the radius on the rear of the shell. It’s actually more flat which makes it appear slightly concave relative to the slightly convex shell. Looks funky so probably should have stuck with the regular CX for the price jump.
#2 I do not like how the windoors fit inside of the side window molding of the shell. The rear lower corner and the front upper corner radii do not match the molding on the radius for the shell. I know this is a production thing to cut costs using one mold but it looks like an afterthought when compared to the Leer version of windoors. Leer fully fits in the opening. For the money I was paying I was hoping there would be at least some trim piece available to fill that gap. On one of the other models they had at the shop (non windoors) there was a small trim piece in each corner painted black. I’m sure I could make something but my OCD can’t unsee it.
#3 Within a week the goofy double sided tape that held up the cables for the latches inside the rear glass lost its stick, now those cables are both hanging freely. Also the latches on each side of the rear glass weren’t adjusted well so I’ve had to fiddle with those a couple times to get them close. I’m sure as it settles in they need tweaking but unless I press on the glass from outside to engage the latch simply shutting the glass doesn’t do it.

The dealer said bring it back and they would adjust everything just haven’t had time to do it. Overall still happy with the ARE but do prefer the look of the side windoors on the Leer.
