Just wondering how difficult a job it would be to tackle right and left gasket? I'm mechanically inclined, just never did much automotive work. 2007 Tundra 4.7 V8 SR5 Single Cab

Is the 4.7 different then the 5.7
They say don’t even think about trying the cam tower seals on the 5.7

I'm just trying to do the valve cover gaskets, I don't think I should have to go into the cam tower, at least I definitely hope not..

I just did both sides on mine today,it’s a pretty easy job. I changed my spark plugs while I was at it. About 9 bolts hold on the cover and 4 hold on the coils to the cover. There’s a couple things to look for and make sure of if doing this job. Let me know if I can help..

The 4.7 engines do not have cam towers like the 4.6 and 5.7 engines do. I have replaced the valve cover gaskets twice on the 2006 Tundra I had before getting the 2018. Easy to do, very straight forward, just do a clean R&R.

I didn’t have time so I just paid the shop to do it which I never do. I think it ran 250 with parts.

Just got the oil changed in my 08 today, 4.7L, and the tech said I needed the valve cover gaskets replaced, at $640. I told him not today!

Does anyone have pictures from the install? I’m not sure if I want to tackle it or find another shop to do it.

If you have done any mechanical work at all you can do this job. I did mine a couple weeks ago. What happens is the rubber washers that are on the valve cover bolts (9) get squashed by heat cycling and may only be finger tight due to this, thus causing oil leakage usually right on the exhaust manifold cover. Mine were mostly all finger tight. I suppose you could just re tighten to spec 17ft pounds. I have heard of guys doing this for a temporary permanent solution... hope this helps.
