    Hi Everyone,

New member and 1st time Tundra owner here. Looking to start tackling my top priority mods soon. I’ve been doing my homework and have come up with a partial plan that I want to share with everyone and get feedback before I pull the trigger on anything. My top priority is lift/wheels/tires/skid plate.

    Goals and uses

90% of my driving will be on the street as this is my daily commuter vehicle. My off-road use is pretty much limited to hunting trips in south and east TX mostly dealing with muddy conditions. I have dreams of hunting elk out west in NM and CO in the coming years and would like my rig to be ready to handle some more mountainous/rocky terrain if needed. I don’t anticipate hitting off-road trails but I guess you never know what kind of hobbies I’ll get into. As far as ride – I’d like to stay as close to my factory ride as possible but realize there will be some give and take here. For looks I want the truck to look “beefy” but have even proportions of lift and tire size. I definitely want to keep the tires as even with the fenders as possible, going no more than ½ inch outside the fender. I’d like to avoid having to do any major cutting/trimming to keep from rubbing. With that said here are my thoughts and questions…

    Wheels

I like a thicker side wall so I’m thinking an 18x9. I could go 20x9 if I end up with 35’s but I am not anticipating that (see tires below). From what I have learned I think +18 to +25 offset is probably what I need to keep from sticking out too far beyond the fender. Am I correct on this? I’ve read a bunch on the offset and all that but have zero experience here.

    Tires

I was between the Nitto Trail Grapplers and the Cooper Discoverer SST Pro’s but I think I’ve settled with the Cooper. From what I’ve read I can’t go wrong either way on these. I think I like the look of the Coopers slightly better and they are quite a bit cheaper at Discount so that’s how I’m leaning right now.

As far as size… I’m thinking a 295/70/18 (34.57x11.73) – to me this is a happy medium between 35x12.5’s or 33’s and will hopefully give me a good fit and look per my goals above.

    Lift

This is where I think I need the most help and am currently undecided. I think 3-4 inches will be about right. Here are my current top options:

    1. Readylift 3”F / 1”R https://www.readylift.com/3-f-1-r-sst-lift-kit-toyota-tundra-trd-sr5-rock-warrior-2012-2018.html - cheapest option

    2. Readylift 4”F / 2”R https://www.readylift.com/4-f-2-r-sst-lift-kit-toyota-tundra-2007-2018.html - in case I need an extra inch. Says it will allow for a 35X12.5 with no rubbing with a +25 offset

    3. Toytec BOSS - from what I have read there are a lot of folks running these. Seems like it might be a good option for better performance off road than the Readylift but I might sacrifice a little of the factory ride?? Looks like there are multiple option for the rear setup. Not sure if I need different shocks back there or not…

I’ll probably be making phone calls to talk to both these companies directly but would appreciate any advice on these or any others.

    Skid plate

Was initially just thinking I’d put a TRD one on since it wasn’t included in the Sport package – but looks like a better option might be to just go with the RCI. Unsure if I need all the various coverages or just the front for my needs. Probably better to be safe than sorry. Any other considerations here besides just spending more cash?

    Other things

Any advice is appreciated with regard to speedo calibration and/or re-gearing. No idea if this is necessary with my anticipated mods but want to be sure I’m taking everything into consideration.

Any other factors to consider in all this I’m not thinking of?

    I appreciate the feedback!!

Out of those lifts you posted, the boss kit will be your best. Stay away from the spacer lifts, ride will suffer. For the size tires you want 3" is plenty. 90% on the road look into bilstein 5100s, they're adjustable too. Bilstein 6112s are a step up from 5100s.

Sounds like you've got a pretty good idea on what you want to do already! Either the Boss or Toytec/Radflo kit from Toytec would be good choices, I have the latter, and 295/70R18's are a good size for that lift. Like others have said before, stay away from spacers. Have heard nothing but good things about the Cooper MT's.

ok - no spacers it is! Now to decide which Toytec! Thanks for the advice! Any thoughts on the wheel offset for the Boss/Radflo with 295/70/18? +18 sound good for no rubbing but not too far past the fender?

You’ll get great advice here. My advice is to get the limit your credit card raised as high as possible.

Since the primary use of your rig will be communting I would choose a tire that is not too loud...
