Anyone running a 3'' body lift?

absolutely!

 

Just downloaded the installation guide for a 3" body lift and looked it over.

Verdict: Holy shit. SO much cutting to be done (lines, bumper, etc.) looks like a lot of work.

I wonder if I would be able to do adjustable Coils and UCAs instead. That's a pretty penny for those things, but quality would be much better. I just don't know how I feel about cutting steering lines and break lines. Seems kinda sketchy to me.

 

Are you gonna off-road any Tyler?

 

I do the occasional beach trips and hit the dunes out there. but nothing crazy. I wont know until I find out how the new gears affect power.

 

Full coilover gets my vote, better ride on/off. Good luck

 

My little tundra on 35.4" with a 3"/2" lift next to my friend Ken's F250 on 38" tires.

Don't still need to replace the shocks as well? Or can you get away with just the blocks? As far as bigger tires, I think the biggest I would go is 35". Right now I have the TASK off-road package, blacked out with 285 55 R20. So I would like a 0 offset. Once these tires wear out (just bought a 2018 crewmax) , I may change the tires.

 

you don't have to adjust any suspension parts for a body lift. the only thing a body lift does is lifts the cab from the frame. the frame and suspension will remain the same.

 

so damn torn.. if I went with adjustable coils up front, what would I need to do to level out the back?

 

So when is it necessary to replace shocks or get coilovers and etc? Someone told me I should get a 4" lift and get the full kit. I won't do any off-roading, I have the front sensor, so I have to be careful about leveling it up front, I just want a lifted look for s slightly wider tire and not lose any smoothness when I'm driving

if youre looking at lift ideas, check out this link. its basically a discussion on all the types of lifts. definitely helped me out. but this will be able to answer a lot of your questions. im just a jackass with a jacked up truck lol

You might be able to clear 38's with an aftermarket bumper. Steers clear of the body lift. UCA's and a good set of coilover's should make your daily and off road driving more comfortable and look nice as well.

 

I was thinking about the bumper.. but I know I'll have to chop the frame a little. Won't hurt, but I do a bunch of u-turns, so I like turning at full tilt

 

Some trucks need bumper lifts and steering shaft extension.

 

My last truck with a 3 inch body lift needed longer brake lines.

 

Tyler when you figure. Out what coilover and how high, then you can see what you need for the rear. You have springs, shackles, blocks, and airbags if your going that far. I am @ top setting on my 6112's with a 1" tapered block. This set up left me with some rake, which I wanted. Obviously shackles are a better choice, but a 1" block serves the purpose.

 

yeah after reading over the install, a lot of lines have to be cut. I don't know how comfortable i am with chopping/ extending lines on a brand new truck..

 

im going to talk to a buddy of mine about a coils/UCAs setup. hopefully i get a decent price. we shall seeeee haha


is the top setting on you 6112s stiff? i heard cranking them all the way up can stiffen the ride a little

 

I haven't noticed. What I have noticed is I can barely feel anything going over bumps , holes, etc. I tell ya what is really nice is that big ass Nitto Ridge Grappled plowing through standing water with no steering wheel shake. My take on setting @ the top is I don't off-road with this Tundra and would rather get the height increase via max setting vs setting @ 1.9 like most guy's are doing, then putting shims on top. My mechanic said a shim is fine to correct a lean, but wouldn't recommend stacking shims to get more height. Keep us posted Tyler

 

update: most likely goin the coilover route. just got a quote for Fox adjustable coilovers, parts and install $1050. I still will need some UCAs and the ones ive found don't look very cheap.

pretty stock price that ive seen.. are the reservoirs even necessary? not even sure of their function

 

The unit will hold more oil to prevent overheating, so the shock will work as intended for longer when putting to use and should require less service intervals. Plus they look cool.

 

yeah they look cool as hell. but honestly, im not an offroad guy, so I don't think Ill need em. just going for some extra lift up front

 

I have the 2018 Tundra with the new collision safety feature. If I went with a 3" lift, what would I need in the back so I don't throw it off? From what I understand, it will mess the system up, so I'm not sure at what degree the rear needs to be higher than the front.
