I have about 70 or 80 stainless bolts and washers in my grille that are stainless. I need them to be black. I think powder coating is not a good option and they want 80 cents a bolt. Any ideas on how to get these black affordably, or on a source for some black 6mm Allen bolts with washers bout an inch or a lil more? Thanks!

Try route66mods.com. I am not sure if they have black bolts and washers for your grille but they did have them for my fender flares. Look on their site or contact them.

Depending on your need for quality you could adjust the prep work but this seems like a fairly easy DIY.

I would get a big piece of cardboard and insert them all into the cardboard and apply multiple light coats of paint until they get to the coverage you want. Maybe enamel for longevity, I’m not sure.

The prep work is what might take your time, a degreasing will help the paint stick but a small amount of sanding might be needed on some if you’re a perfectionist.

Just an idea, hope it helps.

I didn’t mean to be a dick. Sure sounded like it when I reread what I typed though. Plastidip is not my bag. Dust sticks to it and just generally doesn’t last when getting pelted by rocks n such in my humble experience. Thank you for the suggestion though!

Have you checked the specialty hardware bins at Lowe’s to see if they have a substitute that would work?

I see your not a fan of plastidip what about a liner material ? Other then that for long life I really think you will need to cough up the 80 bucks and just get it done right .Bolts are not cheep. I went to buy some like @Tundra4Pinay did for my flare s and just decided heck with it .

The issue isn’t really the 80 cents each although that does suck. If you powdercoat the bolt heads won’t it just chip off or be hard to get the Allen wrench into?

That Route 66 thing is interesting I will look at that.

Guys jeez I already said sorry... I didn’t read what I typed I guess. My bad!

I was in the same boat. I got my grill bullet lined, similar to Line X.

I can only imagine how much each spike costs. Also I would do something stupid like spike myself in the face when I bent over. I’m kind of an idiot.

Us tumdra owners are a little sensitive haha .
Yes possibly but I'm sure you could grab the sides of them just to tighten the nuts on the other side with like channel locks or something .

That sounds like a bad plan... I want to do it right. Channel locks doesn’t sound like the right path.

I think like you I thought the chrome bolts wouldn’t look bad because the ADD bumper has the stainless bolts but... it looks a little busy. Didn’t bother me on the chrome grille. Shoulda woulda coulda.
