Hey there Tundras.com folks. I've been reading and enjoying the forum since I started eyeballin a Tundra. Anyone ever tell you you guys are a bad influence!? You should be ashamed of yourselves :D

Anyway, on to the build! I've done the mild to wild thing with other cars and trucks in the past so I know the ropes, pitfalls, pluses and minuses of all that. I'm not going there this time. For this build, I've decided on a "Stock But Not" (SBN) theme. This puppy will serve as my daily, and my "weekend warrior". It needs to ride comfortably and reliably on the road for our cross country trips, but also be capable of seeing 'where that dirt trail goes' on a whim. It wont be a rock crawler or pre runner, but will get me thru the washouts and over the ruts. It won't turn 11s in the quarter, but will kick me in the back when I get on it. It will look stock to the uninitiated, but somehow not to those who know... get the idea?

    Here's what I'm starting with.
    190206 Standard Equipment Edit.jpg

I had these added by the factory
    190206 Optional Equipment Edit.jpg

And here's what it looks like when I brought it home yesterday
    2019-02-09-09.39.35.993.jpg

    2019-02-09-09.39.22.404.jpg

    2019-02-09-09.40.24.027.jpg

I also had the dealer tint the front windows, because AZ. 35%.

So far, the only mod I've made personally is this (because 'murica!... and the wife bought it for me demanding it be the first mod, so duh)
    2019-02-09-13.14.20.281.jpg

In keeping with the SBN theme, and because I like them, I'm going to keep the stock wheels (oops, no I didn't. Keep reading). Plan is to kick the nose up 2.5", bump the rear up 1", replace the tires with 295s and spacer out the wheels to get the stance I want. Other exterior plans include some subtle tweaks that may include a factory-looking-but-not front bumper, maybe a rear (the search is on for both), some small ditch lights, and a few other minor things. For the interior I have some functional mods planned as well that will include a front camera (FRAC?), maybe a Pop&Lock for the tailgate and other stuff. Performance wise I'm looking into better under body protection, the TRD front sway, maybe some actual sliders that work as steps... I'll keep this thread updated :)

    Thanks for reading!

A little of this and a little of that.
Great start. I like that color. SOunds like you’ve got some nice plans for your ride. For sliders and all things metal contact @brimy311 at Victory 4x4, he’s got an awesome pair of sliders that you can step on as well as other amour protection.

Shake down run. Trying to get a feel for the 'ride' before any serious mods. LOVE that rear sway for the mountain twisties but I'm definitely gonna have to see about some sort of quick disconnect solution for the front and rear...

(BTW, can you tell why I went with the bench seat :D )

Good looking truck. Be careful, little things add up and next thing ya know it's completely modded. Always itching to add a little something.

Thanks and ha! Yuuuuup. Been there done that. More than once. And I'm sure the same will happen this time too. But for now I'm just gonna keep repeating the theme in my head "stock but not, stock but not"... whatever the hell that means :p

Added a few minor interior mods:

AmFor HD Glass Adjustable Blind Spot Mirrors. I like the quality and adjustability, but they stick out quite a bit. Pretty sure they won't survive a car wash if I forget to fold in the mirrors. Time will tell.

SCOSCHE ReVolt Compact Dual Port USB Fast Car Charger with Illuminated LED Backlight - 12 Watts/2.4 Amps Per Port. Blue isn't a perfect match but its plenty close enough for me. And they're not stupid bright either. Not enough to be distracting, anyway. Also note these do stick out, but not obnoxiously so (maybe 3/8"?). And if you pull the USB cable, the adapter wants to come with it. Fit isnt as tight as it could be but its good enough

SCOSCHE MAGKIT MagicMount Universal Magnetic Phone/GPS Mount. Great little unit. Holds the phone very well, although I do expect it to jitter some over the rougher roads. One note: the metal plate that attaches to the phone screws with Qi charging; not a big deal for me as I don't use it, but something to know none the less. Could be my Qi charger. Dunno.

Next mod: WeatherTech 2019 Toyota Tundra Seat Protector

    2019-02-14-11.54.25.337.jpg

Edit and Update: Well this didn't work. Two major problems:
    1) the attachment method to the headrests kinda sucks. Its elastic, so it stretches and pulls and lets the outside 'wings' flap around a LOT in the wind with the windows down
    2) its not long enough to stay put. The dog moves and up comes the cover. In no time the cover is bunched up on the seat and the pup is sitting back on the seat directly, but now with less room because the cover is piled up on it.

So, out it goes and in its place we've got a 4KNines Extra Large Hammock cover

    2019-04-13-17.37.06.396.jpg

This solves both issues; the attachment around the headrests is an ajustable nylon strap with a quick disconnect buckle. Wrap it around, tighten it up and no more flapping or flopping around. And since this is the "hammock" version, we're able to tuck the hammock part up and under the seat a good long way, such that the pup wasn't able to pull it up more than a couple inches during the 2200 mile roadtrip we just completed. What's more, this 4KNines version is significantly cheaper the Weathertech version. Much more gooder.

Splash after both LEDs installed. Pic doesn't really show much beyond the color change. But yeah, my whole garage is lit up now. Much better.

Job done in the rear. Start to finish this took me maybe 45 mins, most of which was spent getting these pictures. Very easy job.

On to the interior. Which should have taken me maybe 30 mins but ended up taking me 3x that. Not RH's fault by any means. Turns out there's a bad plastic weld holding one of the bulb legs on the driver side map light. When I put the new bulb in, it gave way and pushed up into the housing.

    2019-02-15-06.47.28.131.jpg

Ended up using some ceramic tweezers to pull it back down, then fished some dental floss around one of the legs. The floss allowed me to pull down on the leg as I slid the bulb in. Its in there nice and solid now. Just hope I never have to change it again.
    2019-02-15-07.02.06.343.jpg

Beyond that, the install of everything else went just fine.
    2019-02-15-06.37.14.534.jpg

    Before any changes
    2019-02-15-06.28.04.279.jpg

    And after all done
    2019-02-15-07.34.02.022.jpg

Again the pics only really show the color change, but there's no comparison to the amount of light thrown before or after.

    Two thumbs up!

Next tweak. Its subtle but I like. Bonus points when the wife walks by and says, "Wait, whats different? It looks more sporty!" :)

    Next tweak: https://www.cupholdersplus.com/shorty-hot-rod-floor-console.html

"Classic Consoles Shorty Hod Rod Floor Console, Madrid Black"

Those wings are screwed in. Three each. I'm going to try without them, velcro'd down (rough side stuck to rough side, so both sides are rough. Velco sticks to both the console and floor well. Don't plan to have to remove it, but good to know I can in a pinch.)

I may flip it around so the cup holders are closer to the seat, or may not. Time will tell.

As consoles go, this wasn't cheap (at $80+shipping) but its definitely a quality piece. Looks good too down there. Almost like it belongs especially given the chrome rings match those around the air vents.

UPDATE: The cup holders on this suck. They're pretty much useless for anything of normal size (stuff leans, falls out around corners, etc). So I called CupHoldersPlus and the guy pretty much finished my sentence; yeah, they suck. They're working on an insert but its not due for a while. He did tell me the ID wall to wall is 3.5". Some Amazon searching and I found these:

    https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B076B3SF1W/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And they're perfect. I did have to trim off the little nubs on their OD with a razor blade but after that, these slide in, and almost grip/suction themselves to the plastic walls of the console. Now the bottles/coffee cups stay perfectly put, and thanks to the grip within the holder the inserts just dont come out.

UPDATE May 28 2019: Those "chrome" rings around the holders. Yeeaaahh. Heads up. Its chrome paint that has zero resistance to cleaning chemicals. I'd used a mild cleanser on a towel to wipe away dust and noticed immediately that the chrome paint was coming up. So I finished the job with some rubbing alcohol. Gone is the chrome and instead I'm left with a semi gloss black plastic ring. Which, in the end is ok with me. I actually think it looks better as the whole unit blends in more down there.

Super impressed with the quality and how solidly these mount. You can shake the truck by grabbing these, and they wont budge.

Here's a mock up "his and hers" shot of our 'match day' setup. The Quick Fists are just ziptied on for now. Looks like this is going to work just fine.

    Extinguisher job done.

I used 2x Quick Fist Fire Extinguisher mounts to hold that Amerex ABC 5lber to the Victory4x4 Side Molle panel. The holes here on the vertical sections of the inside of the panels line up perfectly with the holes in the QFs. Almost like @brimy311 designed it that way :D

Great looking truck. Thanks for the write up and all the great ideas. I'm slowly upgrading my truck. Next will be the bilstein 6112 and 5160s, and new tires.

Next up is a mobile HT 2m/70cm ham radio setup.

Stake pocket mount: Breedlove #917. (I painted mine black, only 'cause I'm vain like that :p). In retrospect I should have grabbed the #918 (with SO-239 connection) rather than the ring terminal version (917). Easy enough to handle with an SO-239 to ring adapter (or by making my own) but would have been even easier just to screw the cable directly on.

    Antenna: Larsen 2m/70cm, NMO, 37.25"

Radio: For now, just your basic Baofeng UV-5R MK5 (8w) HT. Hope to step up to a real mobile radio some day...

    K6JVC out for now :)

    Update 4/9/2019
I've done some range testing with this system and I'm 5by5 at 10mi with no line of sight. 11mi is probably the max (reports from other said I was coming in ok but with lots of modulation). More than good enough given the setup, in my opinion.

Just wanted to get your input on the cup holders. Still happy with them? Still working good after the adjustments?
