I have roughly 1000 pieces of .223 brass kicking around. I don't own a .223 at all but I'm planning on an AR or similar in the future. It's the off season so I figured I could load up this ammo.

I'm wondering what you guys use for your AR .223 loads, specifically using Varget and 55gr projectiles (probably buying CamPro bullets myself). Not looking for tack driving accuracy, just something to get out and shoot with. Minute of zombie out to 100 - 150, maybe 200 yards would make me happy enough.

I use small base dies. CFE- 223 powder. It runs great through a powder measure. Also a Lee factory crimp die to crimp. If your brass has crimped in primers, you'll have to swage or ream after depriming.

My brass is already deprimed and ready to load. I haven't tried CFE-223. I have about 4 pounds of Varget kicking around to use up.

I don't think I've seen Wolf up here in Canada. Is it crappy ammo?

Outside of my handloads, I mainly shoot Federal and CCI Blazer in my guns.

Varget is a great powder. I've found it just doesn't flow good in my Uniflow powder measure. Being a stick powder, it gets cut, and drops are inconsistent. Works great when I trickle it to my scale pan, but that's slow. Good luck with your loading.

Good to know. I use a RCBS Chargemaster dispenser/scale combo. It drops stick powder pretty well. Needs the odd tweak from the trickler now and then though. Maybe one in twenty loads need to be dumped and redone.

I dont reload yet but, I can tell you my 5.56/223 loves the 75gr and 77gr SMK OTM. For plinking I use green tip 62 gr.
I have a buddy that reloads 37gr -55gr/223 for varmints. I can see if he would share his load data.

I don't reload. Where is the best place to start? Knowledge ect. I'd love to reload 12ga, .223, .243, and .30-06 but I've also gotten into pistols with a 9mm and .45

Sign up for one of those workshops. I know here where I am Sportsmans Warehouse has them 3 or 4 times a year. I have been to a couple, after the class they pimp all of the things to get started. I haven't committed yet. I will soon though. With all of the 308/7.62x51 and 6.5 Grendel brass I have it wont take long to break even and then start saving some coin.

I have literally shot thousands of rounds of Wolf. Other than being dirtier and 1 bad primer (fizzled in the chamber) I have never had any issues.

When I was younger my dad gave his buddy his dies to reload for him. It was his hobby and I got to reap the rewards. I would take my brass to him and he'd give me reloads in exchange. I don't think I bought ammo for 15 years. From game loads to plinking to tracers. He was a great guy with an amazing sense of humor. He passed about ten years ago. I'd love to learn now that I am comfortable in my career and am getting more time to get back into the things I love to do like shooting and just being outdoors. I will check our sportsman's Warehouse for classes. Thanks for the tip.

RCBS has a dvd out called Precisioneered Handloading. It gives an excellent intro to reloading. The Lyman reloading manual is also excellent once you filter out the marketing wank. The ABC's Of Reloading is another highly recommended beginner book.

    I have reloaded for years.
    Known accurate load,
    25 grains Varget
    Any 55 grain bullet
    Lake City brass
CCI 450 primers (thicker cups to prevent slam fires) AR-15 safe
Your bullet type dictates the seating depth, crimp or no crimp.
I travel back to Wyoming and Colorado every year just to shoot Prairie dogs.

I reload on a single stage rockchucker and a Dillon 650. If you want to learn to reload I will show anyone who can travel to Sunriver, 25 miles south of Bend Oregon. I love to shoot live Varmints, squirrels and Prairie dogs, and call coyotes a lot. Finding an accurate load for a certain rifle is a simple task. Everyone I shoot with reloads. I have shot more than 1,500 rds in one day using 4 rifles.
