Nice ideas and options but I'd rather have reliability over convenience.

    What has Ford done?? lol
They tried this with the hideous Lincoln Blackwood, didn't go so well. They did the tailgate step which was an ok idea, Toyota debuted the soft drop tailgate, and now we have GMC and Fiat? I think i would rather take the GMC only because the uneven split on the Fiat's tailgate. Though i would be afraid to load anything onto either one of the "fancy" tailgates.

Looks cool. They all do. But that many moving parts means more ware and tear and things to go wrong. Rather just have a one piece solid tailgate.

    That seems unnecessary.

Also looks like it's super easy to steal.

Article says it can hold 2000 pounds? Interesting idea and I applaud the creativity. Let Ram be the beta tester for the next gen tundra...

Um, NO! More parts to go wrong in the years to come. And the GMC tailgate with the flip-down step looks like you couldn't step on it holding much weight. Don't want to see such gimmicks on a Tundra.

I like my soft open tailgate. All I need. They could stand to beef up the sheet metal though.

Very functional and imo bad ass! But as others have said, way too many moving pieces that will eventually fail and will have to be replaced. Also love the look of the new Sierra but love the Tundra more for its reliability!

I like the multifunction tailgates. The split door is useful I guess if you're carrying a load of dirt/rocks and don't want to ruin a tarp to keep the material out of the tailgate jamb, or if you're just tall enough to be able to grab whatever is at the front of the bed w/the split doors open, but weren't tall enough to grab it with a standard tailgate. Not sure if there would be any benefit if you have a Decked system and/or a bed slide though, and opening the tailgate up as doors might actually just get in the way at that point. Seems a little too niche market to me.

They should focus on reliability of the entire vehicle instead of cute little bullshit frills.

At 53 I like the simplicity of the Rivian's tailgate.

Yup, I tried the GMC and there is nothing to hold onto while stepping up/down. More a balancing act invitation to the A$$ busting contest.
Wish I remembered/could find the video the local news had.. he had a 5.X' colleague jump up into and back out of the bed. She used the swinging door to climb down (it was moving a bit) while he tried to prove the 2K theory by jumping up (seated) onto the gate. Jurys out if it would hold up to weight over time. Agree w/ @Fishman57 @Blueknights75 @15whtrd @Jim LE 1301 @Baja Mike @jewsNbrews and @Sas leave that crap on theirs, I'd give a polite glance while passing one on the road, but leave ours alone. My knees are just fine with the traditional gate bedstep and mats.
