Hey guys, I am looking at a 31ft atlas camp trailer. Dry weight 7083 and truck is rated for 8800.

From what I have read, getting a super spring, and anti sway hitch should get me there but wanting to know if anyone has experience. Also curious about mirror options?

    Welcome Chris, from CO.

There are so many threads on this topic. Check out our towing section. Just this weekend I did a couple detailed replies with weight ratings, etc.

    Welcome from NY.

I pull a 20' open car trailer and the weight is about 4,600 pounds. I don't even feel it behind me. Your pulling about 2,400 pounds more, I don't see a problem. Just remember you are close and that's not counting passengers, luggage and other things.

I'm sure the real pro's will chime in.

You need to know your TW and then your payload as well before you can calculate if your able to pull the trailer safely. Colorado tj had a great response in another thread about this helping the lady figure it out.

    Welcome!

My opinion is that is way too much trailer for a Tundra. Yeah, it will move it. Might not even be overweight. But if you are gonna be making frequent trips with it and your family in the truck, no way. I wouldn’t want to do that in any half ton.

The low payload rating of the Tundra is what will get you.

Calculate the load using GCWR. I’ll bet you that trailer will put you over the limit

Dry weight is meaningless. You need to know the weight when it’s loaded with water, gear, propane etc. That stuff could easily add up to close to 800-900 lbs. more. Just the water tank in my TT weighs 250#

The rule that I have set for myself has been, I don’t want a trailer heavier than the truck I’m towing it with. Especially in a half ton form. Not because you can’t tow it, but because I don’t want what I’m hauling pushing me around. So all the trailers I look at I shoot for 4 to 6000 pounds give or take.

Everyone is aware of SAE j2807 and the required tests? Right?

The Tundra was the first 1/2 ton to use the standard. The Tundra is rated to tow what the OP is asking and still have reserve in gcvwr.

I have more of an issue with people in 3/4-1 tons towing at 75-80 mph, than a person towing at 80-90% of capacity.

Don’t know how you can say that without knowing the true weight of that trailer. He gave the dry weight which really means nothing.

2013 Toyota tundra 4x4 cm weight distribution and sway bar vs 2019 prowler 30lx coming in at 33ft and 11in rounded up to 34 basically. Trailer weighs in close to 6800lbs, and pulls it like a champ.

Actually was pulling in close to 9! The weight distribution hitch and sway bar makes a heck of a difference.

I get 9 dragging an 8k 5th wheel. The truck loves 4th gear at 65mph.

Sounds great, I was thinking about the 5th wheel but didn't trust the short bed and the 5th wheel hitch system they have for the short beds. Good towing fellas
