Huge bummer man. I'm worried this is going to happen to me at some point. Good luck with the repair.

Well it's worse than I thought, well not worse just covered more area. The moisture really wicked it's way out further than expected.
I cut some drywall out today and I just kept cutting til it was dry....but some spots I never got to dry.
I need to cut more out. I snapped a line on the ceiling to where I plan to go. I need to pull the cabinet above the fridge to get access there. Once I cut it all out its gonna take 2 sheets of drywall to fill it in. Here are some pics of the current holes and one of where I plan to cut.
I was careful when I removed the crown so i can re use it, I will have to reinstall 2 can lights as well once I hang the new sheetrock.

Sorry to see this happened to ya.

I'd definitely put a water leak sensor under that tub.

Idk if that would have helped in this situation. This sucker literally pumped 10 gallons of water out of the tub in a minute. But I may do that for the future. I will say those stupid jets will never be used again even after I fix the broken fitting. What a pain in my ass.

We put one in once that had a bag fitting right from the factory didn't know it until the first time it was turned on. Service guy but came to fix it because of warranty was too fat to crawl back in so I got the job that he made the big bucks.

True story. What brand do you recommend? How do they work? Just sense moisture and sound an alarm?

Just a thought Sean, kinda like lemonade from lemons. While you've got access you could tap the can light circuit and add a light in the cabinet with the glass door?

I actually was thinking of that. Might run a wire and put an outlet in there so I can plug in some LED strip or rope lights. The shelves are wood so I would need lights on each shelf, something i have always wanted to do.

Dammit Sean. I was hoping this was going to be a quick job.

Some good ideas on upgrading while things are open.

Sorry for your pita project Sean. Geez I dread plumbing and leak projects, for me they often tend to lead somewhere I never want to go or end up paying out $50-80p/h for some expert or contractor to help me reduce the stress and pain. Credit and moral support to you for sticking it out and wish you success.. get this project in your rear view mirror soonest!!

I've got the tub repairs and everything is dried out. I'll hang the sheetrock (less than 2 sheets) on the ceiling later this week. After it's taped I can put the crown molding back up and any other little touches that are needed.
Going through insurance was going to be more expensive and a headache to be honest, basically the mortgage company has a say and they won't just cut me a check. Idk if this is just a CT thing or what.
Anyway I will only be a about 4 hours and about $50 into the repair once the sheetrock is up. Not horrible just a pain in the ass and time consuming.

I'm getting there. I'll just be happy to have the ceiling closed in. The rest I dont mind taking my time on
