There was 2 tables of some saggy-pants homies behind us, but they were polite and respectful. One of them held the door for my daughter when we exited - I made sure to thank him kindly along with my daughter thanking him!
I’m always respectful to everyone I come in contact with.

    I don't understand.

You're having dinner with your daughter, who has certainly heard swear words before (based on your recounting of the tale and frequent use of profanity).

Dude walks in, speaks his opinion to his companion, uses some profanity.. Certainly not the classiest guy but absolutely within his rights to travel freely, patronize an establishment, and speak his opinion, and because of his opinion and saying "shit" frequently you wanted to "lay the fucker out flat" but chose not to..?

Is there something else that I'm missing? This guy having an opinion you didn't like was enough to consider a violent act against him? Honest question, because it seems like a non-issue that got you pretty pissed pretty fast.

    I don't get this thread.

OP: Someone had an opinion and expressed it in public. I didn't like their opinion or the words they used so despite being angry and wanting to assault a senior citizen I didn't!
Audience: You're a hero for not committing aggravated assault!

    What in the actual fuck?

That's not how I take it even if I hypothetically agree with the core opinion. It's more like have some respect for manners and refrain from generalizing/expressing prejudice (goes both ways), mainly cussing loudly in a restaurant in the company of children. Audience believes OP is a better person for not engaging and can use the moment as a teaching lesson. Imagine if people were like that on any side of the coin everywhere your children went? It wouldn't be a nice world to grow up in, and unfortunately often it isn't.

Talking loud with cuss words, talking shit about a WHITE man. Let's turn the table.

White man goes into same restaurant, starts talking loud with cussing, talking shit about a BLACK man. WTF do you think is going to happen. Number 1, the white man is a racist.

    Double standard BULLSHIT!!!!!!!

People ARE like that everywhere you go. That's kind of my point. You run into an unpleasant person expressing unpopular opinions and using poor language, the NORMAL response is to do nothing and avoid conflict. It doesnt make you a hero to consider assault and then decide against it.

It's good to make your bed and eat all your veggies but it's certainly not worth any special mention or pats on the back beyond a certain age.

Hey, not trying to start a fight, but I think you may be missing a point here. The OP was targeted by this person because he is white and was standing out in an area where he wasn’t fitting in (dressed nicely). At that point in time, he was the minority. Maybe you don’t see the racism from “nazi’s” because you are not their target. A minority walking through your daily life might experience it different from you. Again, not trying to start something. Just trying to point out that it’s about perspectives.

Yeah being the only white person in the room isn’t an excuse for the others to act like piece of shit racists. Not once in my life have I seen white people act like that in the reverse situation and I’m in the Deep South.

Every black person in America needs to read this article (written by a black man).

I guess it depends on where you live and where you choose to go, but people are NOT like that where I go. I hear people express opinions that I may disagree with, but they are not obnoxiously loud in restaurants or even in bars. And excessive cursing is rare and normally practiced only by teenagers and very young adults who haven't learned to be civil.
