There were about 10 vehicles parked around me today in a ski resort parking lot with BFG KO2's. It makes me want them even more, but I need some convincing. They obviously dont have passenger tire treads, and they dont look like they wick off rain very well. They also seem like they will be loud. Please share your thoughts with me on these. Thanks in advance.

    Lost track after #1.
I had those before I bought the Nitto Ridge Grapplers I have now. They're fine tires, but I like the Nitto's better on all fronts.

    Nick,

Check out my post on “What have you done to 3rd generation Tundra”

I have researched a lot lately between BF Goodrich AT KO2’s and Goodyear DuraTracs

They both have really good reviews but I purchased Goodyear because of the great discount they have now.

You can get 20% off plus an $80 MasterCard cash back promo through March

Good to know. I was thinking about KO2's, Ridge Grapplers, and Falken Wildpeak AT's. Haven't looked into Cooper much.

I have BFG KO2 and Toyo AT 2 on 2 different vehicles and I feel the KO2 work better on snow/ice than the Toyo but the Toyo are great in sandy environment.

KO2 also have the snowflake rating

I need snowflake rating. My Tundra is making friends with lots and lots of snowy mountain passes. I wont be doing much off roading and if I do it will be light, so I dont need stuff good in sand. Thanks @TheBeast

Exactly. I want that rugged look, because I dont want to get rid of my 20s, but I think they would look much better with a gnarly sidewall.

I know I can go a tire size up in the sidewall length, but I'm not sure if I can go any wider than stock. Who knows?

depends on offset on the wheels. Usually you can go up one size from stock

I’ve had no issues with rain, snow nor noise on the road. Been rocking KO2 on my Taco and Tundra.

That's good and all but do you guys think a 285/60/20 would work? 1.6" taller and a mere 0.4" wider.

I had coopers on my old Tacoma, Loved them ATP's and S/T. Little wheeling both worked well

check Costco for the KO2. With install/ Nitrogen and warranty they were one of the cheapest ones. And great CS.
They do have BFG specials from time to time

I’ve ran BFG all terrains for 20+ years. Always been great. Now I’m running cooper at3 4s. They do great in the desert and have a great treadwear warranty as well. Quiet on the road. So far this year I’ve made 3 boarding trips to Utah. This last trip was to brianhead last Monday- Wednesday. It was snowing pretty good. Tires did GREAT. Road up the mtn wasn’t really plowed, parking lot was icy. No problems at all.
So not as sold on BFG as I used to be.

I just started researching the same thing. Think I will get a year on the stock tires then put something else on. I've run BFG ATs since the 90s on my trucks but now I am going to look around before jumping back on the KO's. The Ridge Grapplers look interesting and I wonder how well they do in all manner of conditions. Of course, like everyone else, I'm looking for the holy grail. The tires that work great on the road, in the rain, in the bottomless sand we have out here in SoCal, in the rocks, snow and clay goop I encounter on vacations all over the west and north west. The BFGs were good all around, nothing super stellar but very reliable. And yes they do grab small stones and fling them when you least expect it.

One spring I was on a dirt road near Bryce Canyon, going east and up in elevation. As I climbed, there was a minivan stuck in the snow melt gumbo, mud up over the bumpers. I was in my 2002 Tundra, and stopped to help. All I had was some tow straps and my small camp folding shovel. I cleared some space around the front and rear bumpers and tires, connected the straps to the back. Along came a truck coming from where I was going, a 'bigfoot'. He looked down at us and said "don't go further, I almost got stuck myself" and drove off. Thanks for the help buddy o_O You would think he would help the woman covered in goop who was trying to help the stranger in the mini van. Nope. My truck was little more than a year old, so I got out some trash bags and covered the floor and seat so I could sit, and slowly drove downhill backwards, pulling the van out of the deep and onto solid ground, about 100 yards. The BFGs hardly slipped even though the stuff was like clay-pot clay mixed with cow stuff and way too much water. The stranger, a visiting Canadian, thanked me and went on his way. If I wasn't sold on the BFGs before I was then and just kept using them. They are good tires. So I am 80% sure I am going to get those but as I have some time to research, well, I'm here looking. My past experience with Michelin tires was bad so I don't want to keep the stock tires for very long.

If you live in an area with caliche (desert), or sharp, jagged rocks then you do not want these. I had a set on my work truck 2017 F-250 (265 - 70 17" load range E) and they were shredded in 18,000 miles. They have a bad tendency to chunk... lose large pieces of rubber.

I imagine they are excellent in the snow and mud, but they are awful if you drive on hard, loose and jagged surfaces. This is just my experience with them.

Tzvia, if you’re not going to lift your truck and go w “big “ tires. Look into the coopers. I’m very impressed w them. I’ve always been a huge BFG guy. Had cooper atp.’s on a Silverado 1500, did good, not great. Have cooper at3 4s now, taken them in rock, sand, snow/ice. Love them. Perform great, quiet on highway. Limited on sizes though.

Ditto on Cooper Tires...I do admit my Dura Tracs that I had on my 09 Taco performed great up in AK. Sidewalls a bit soft for rocky wheeling.Great all around tire...but....Check out the new Cooper AT3 series.

Don’t like my KO2’s. Had them on my old truck and got rid of them as soon as they needed replacing. Only reason I’m running em right now is because they came on the truck. They work great in the dirt but I have had issues spinning on wet pavement especially when it rains. They are loud too.

Yes. That has always been my big complaint with the BFGs. Chunks of knobs would just disappear. Just be shaved clean off. And the sidewalls would dry and crack well before they tread would wear down to replacement time. But they worked well as all around tires. Cooper?? Guess I have some research to do.

I have owned two sets of Coopers and I have really liked them both.... The SST Maxx's and the AT3's, I believe. They don't look the greatest (in my opinion) but they do perform very well and have a great tread life. The AT3's were very quiet on the highway as well, and the SST's weren't all that bad either, especially for an all-terrain/mud tire. Get ready for $ticker $hock though. I do recommend Coopers based on performance and durability... Just not looks.

So last weeks high was -2 and today 50 feels like shorts today!

Had to give her a quick wash and slick up those DuraTracs

I loved the look and ride of the KO2s I had but they only lasted @30k miles. A little sketchy in the rain

Went with a less aggressive Michelin AT2s and have been very happy with these since not really wheeling the Sequoia much

Does Costco install larger tires on Tundras? Last I heard you can buy larger tires but they won't install if it's not stock size. Thanks in advance .Cheers
