So I installed the DC3 and the X1-MAX and enabled all the sensors in the Drone Activation Portal (guest activation) and enabled relevant settings on the DC3 using the Weblink software. I could then use the iOS app to remote start/lock/unlock/etc. I then went to test the alarm functionality. When I armed the alarm and then opened a door/trunk/hood to simulate a break-in, the alarm would trigger and make the horn honk and the parking lights flash and I get a DroneMobile app notification with a very loud and ominous siren tone that lasts for 30 seconds...everything is working as expected so far.
I then went to test the X1-MAX's shock sensor by tapping directly on the X1-MAX, expecting it to set off the alarm system just like the door/trunk/hood triggers...but the vehicle alarm was never triggered. I did get a notification in the app but the sound effect was just a short 1-second ding and the notification within the app disappeared after 5 seconds!! I scratched my head and then tested the glass-break sensor by jingling my keys in front of the unit and it was the exact same as the shock sensor. Surely this could not be how it was designed?? This clearly was not generating a full-on alarm trigger and a short little ding notification is in no way sufficient to alert the user that someone is actively breaking into their vehicle. I thought there was no way this could be how they designed it so I spent the next day double-checking the wiring and going through every possible programming option and app setting to see what I was doing wrong. I couldn't find anything wrong so I took it to Best Buy and they checked it out and said everything was connected and programmed properly and they weren't sure why it wasn't triggering a full alarm. They said they'd never tried to use the DC3 + X1-MAX system alarm functionality without also installing the FT-ALARMIT-KIT so they weren't sure if this behavior was by design or not, but they suspected it was by design.
I reached out to Compustar and they told me that this is by design. The X1-MAX's security sensors will not trigger the vehicle's alarm. This makes no sense to me - the X1-MAX clearly has the sensors and it has a direct serial connection to the DC3 brain and is sending and receiving data back and forth so there should be no technical reason it can't trigger a full vehicle alarm. So I see this as a pretty obvious and intentional design choice/tactic to make you want to spend more money on an FT-ALARMIT-KIT and upgrade your system to get the full functionality. They need to update the product description to specify that the security features won't trigger the attached alarm system and won't generate a full alarm notification in the app. If I would have known this was how it works from the start I wouldn't have spent the extra money on the X1-MAX.
