About this item

  • UPGRADED STUNNING 4K UHD - With the front cam's resolution upgrading to 2160p from 1296p as of December 1, 2022, this G840S rear view mirror camera can record you 4K front images and 1080p rear images. The full rear display is 1.5 times larger than an ordinary rearview mirror, which has significantly reduced rearview blind spots.
  • 12'' LARGER SCREEN & BROAD VIEW - Upgraded from most rearview mirror cameras, WOLFBOX 170° front, and 140° rear lens provide an ultra-wide view, minimizing the blind spots for safe driving/reversing. With the smart screen split function, you can observe a dual-lens display simultaneously. With a 2.5D curved screen, the body is more smooth and more suitable for the curvature of the human retina. Its OEM looking makes the mirror camera perfectly integrate with the existing mirror.
  • CLEAR IMAGE & ENHANCED NIGHT VISION - With a built-in high-quality chip, the WOLFBOX mirror camera records 4K front and 1080P rear videos. The mirror dash camera applied an upgraded low-reflectivity LCD to reduce reflection during the day. With incorporated WDR&HDR tech balancing the lights, and the help of a starvis sensor and 6-glass lens to capture higher quality images, driving at night or in any challenging lighting situations should be more effortless.
  • GPS TRACKING ALL THE TIME - With the external GPS antenna plugged in, you can view the GPS info on display while on the wheel. Playback recorded videos on GPS Player, not only can you check the double channel videos on one screen, but also accurately trace back all the GPS metrics.
  • 24H PRECISE PARKING MONITOR - Aside from loop recording for safe driving, your car will still be in safe hands after being parked. The time-lapse mode is there to monitor at very low fps which saves power and capacity while having everything recorded.
  • NEW UPGRADE, USB C POWER SUPPLY - To make the use process more stable, the G840S Mirror Camera has been fully upgraded from Mini-USB to a USB C socket, which can largely avoid restarting, high-temperature deformation, and so on. (if you need a hardwire kit, please buy a dedicated USB C hardwire kit. Asin: B09X1L1GMX)
  • More SMART FUNCTIONS - ①Streaming Media Rearview; ②Upside down of rear view ③Mirror Flip of Rear Image; ④G-Sensor; ⑤Loop Recording; ⑦Adjustable Display View Angle, etc

    Basic features difficult to access/use
** Feel free to read my whole review, but I've just taken it down to one star because the system has completely stopped working. Sometimes I can get the screen on, but it doesn't recognize the memory card and won't record even if I can get it powered up, so... **Note: I include power consumption/current draw info at the end of my review.I wrote this review two hours ago as a three star. Then I went and tried to install the rear view camera. Now it's a two star review. I'll explain below. So, I'm six months into owning my dash cam. I like it, but it has recently caused me problems. The install of the basic camera was very simple, but I only plugged in the device/front cam itself, not the rear cameras or GPS. I really like having it, and have even provided video of a car hitting a motorcycle thanks to having this guy in my truck, BUT there are some problems.1) In the last month and a half the screen has started turning itself on while the truck is parked, which increases the power consumption considerably and has killed my new $250 battery several times already, and left me without the use of my truck several times. Not happy. I just had to go spend $55 on jumper cables to get my truck going today because I really needed to get across town and pick something up. This wasn't a problem the first 4.5 months of ownership, but now if I leave my truck sitting for a few days, it's dead. Totally dead. ** Update: during the colder seasons the screen would turn itself on almost constantly, within one to ten seconds of me pushing the button to turn it off, independent of if the vehicle is parked or driving **2) Many may wonder, why not use the power saving mode of parking monitor? Well, you have to buy a different accessory for that to work, item B081TY3H7T. It's a device that plugs into the fuse slots inside your fuse panel, grabbing one battery power source and one ignition switch powered source. Since nobody can tell me how this device communicates to the camera that the vehicle is off rather than just being a power adapter, and the product description itself doesn't even tell me what makes it any different than using the power source provided with the camera, then I'm not buying it. If I spend that $20 and the feature still doesn't work, then I'm just out another $20 and more time. I also don't want to increase the amount of wiring needed in the truck to make this product work. Parking mode seems like a feature that should have been build into the device functionality anyway, just like the GPS functionality should have been.3) The GPS feature fails, like all the time. About a third of the time the GPS shows as speed of 0 shown in red text, as you can see in the pictures ** update, the gps function fails almost all the time now, working only about 5% of the time **. The second photo you can see my speedometer not at zero, but the camera has the red error rather than an actual vehicle speed. So, if I get a ticket there's a very high chance my speedometer feature won't be captured accurately on the camera so I cannot defend myself in court. Also, you have to mount an external GPS device to get any feedback of vehicle speed and direction, and to my understanding this also sets the power off feature so the camera knows when you park and doesn't run 24/7 with the vehicle off. Again, it is unclear if the GPS device or the $20 additional accessory from item 2 actually creates the power off functionality. This should be more clear. I also can't find any instructions online about how to orient the GPS unit, or if it needs to be mounted upside down, like some do.4) The rear view camera installation.... In concept, simple, right? Plug and play? Almost. The device does not have the ability to flip the rearview camera image, so you HAVE to mount the camera with the sticky base pointing up. No option otherwise. There are zero provisions for having to install the camera with the sticky side down, which is required for installation on a truck, because there's no body panel hanging over the truck bed to stick this thing to. There are two mounting brackets included, but they are poorly designed in the sense that you can't actually functionally use them. One is a two-piece design, hinged in the middle, and it could be used to mount the camera under a vertical panel of some kind, but you'd have to have the bracket at a 90 degree angle to do so, sticking out from the truck body, meaning the panel you're mounting to has a black metal square stuck to it just over the camera as well, all of which looks terrible and will likely vibrate loose. They could have designed the bracket to be hidden behind the camera, but the mounting screw tabs on the bracket define exactly how you have to use it. The other single piece bracket is like that, hidden behind the camera, but the mounting screw tabs are too close to the flat portion of the bracket, so the cord coming out of the back of the camera pushes the camera up, making the view from the cameras perspective not useful. Additionally, the included cable for the camera/backup light is 20 ft long, but it's not long enough to reach the rear bumper on my truck (2001 silverado extended cab). If you plan to route the cable under the trim and around the cab to do a proper installation, the cable is about 15 feet too short. 33 ft extension cable is B082RZNJFY, $15, and the 50 ft extension cable is B0814ZHHST, $17. All of this to say, I have to find a way to make a custom mount for this to work on my truck. The only place I can see that will actually work and look halfway decent is if I actually screw one of these brackets into my tailgate handle so I can hang the camera below it, giving up about a 1/3 of my tailgate handle, looking ridiculous, and having to route this cable through the moving action of my tailgate hinges. Down to two star review because of this lack of design and functional quality. They offer the ability to mirror the image, just not flip it to mount the camera the other way. How ridiculous.5) The navigation of saved files is not intuitive, at all. You also cannot fast forward or rewind in a given video file, you have to watch it start to finish without interruption, so you'll want to make certain that your files are configured to be 1 minute long, not two or three. I set the cameras and GPS unit up on my bench to test the power consumption and even after giving the device time to recognize no movement, it did not power off and continued to consume as much power as it did before.6) The G-sensor, which is advertised as being built into the camera, doesn't seem very effective. I set the camera on a washing machine and jolted the machine pretty aggressively without getting a response from the camera or any notification. I'm not sure what the parameters are for this feature to work, but the GPS unit was plugged in as well, and the camera had been sitting idle for several minutes with the screen off.7) With a 32GB card and just using the single front camera set to 1080P, you only get about five hours of record time. That may seem like a lot, but think about if your camera runs while your vehicle is off, or you forget to save the file after an accident, or you hit the lock button, but the file with the recorded incident actually had just ended before you pushed the button, but you didn't know that until more than five hours later and now the file is overwritten? All of these have happened in my time using this camera. I had someone break into my shed and steal my generator while the truck cam was pointing that direction, but it was overwritten before I woke up the next morning. I would suggest getting a larger card, or a camera that actually works in parking mode or motion detection mode (if your future camera has this feature). Parking mode does not work on this product. The good:Screen resolution is pretty good.Audio is pretty good. The ability to review on the screen is handy, though honestly it would be easier to use and navigate if it paired with your phone like some other dash cams on the market. The bad:Aside from being a simple camera and microphone setup it fails in literally every single feature. Every one of them.Power consumption from 13.5v power supply:Unable to test in powered down mode or parking mode, because I can't get them to work -Front cam only, no GPS, screen off - 185 mAFront cam only, no GPS, screen on bright/dim - 405 mA/268 mAFront cam only, GPS plugged in, screen off - 200 mAFront cam only, GPS plugged in, screen on bright/dim - 435 mA/285 mABoth cams, no GPS, screen off - 305 mABoth cams, no GPS, screen on bright/dim - 550 mA/400 mABoth cams, GPS plugged in, screen off - 325 mABoth cams, GPS plugged in, screen on bright/dim - 640 mA/450 mA

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent dash/mirror cam, with some minor issues
Reviewed in the United States on February 24, 2023
I installed this on a 2021 Cherokee. The wire to the camera snugged in at the top of the windshield by the headliner, and mostly fit on the right side of the windshield. Under the dash with black gorilla tape and to the ignition-on 12V outlet and I was good to go. It is really hard to tell from outside the vehicle that I have this in place. I didn't consider the GPS feature something I needed long term but I did try it out. and it seemed accurate in terms of speed and direction. I did not wire up the rear camera, as that would be much more involved and I didn't particularly see the need for it. Even in a disputed accident the front camera will show you were doing nothing wrong when you get rear-ended or hit from the side. After the screen saver for the front camera kicks in and darkens it, the mirror is dark gray but reflects well enough to be useful day or night. Even during the day, with a tinted rear window and sunglasses, I can see behind me. Since getting this 20 days ago I've driven 3200 miles with it.

I will say a number of good things about this camera. The resolution during daylight is outstanding and sharp. At night it is still quite good, but like most cameras, there is much glare from headlights. Getting a license number under many circumstances would be tough in many cases. The night image goes contrasty monochrome most of the time at night, but if your headlights illuminate a sign, or a double yellow line, you get some color there. It really records the roadway well, even in blowing snow and fog.

The manufacturer makes some effort to personally answer questions if you do, as invited, email them. The manual is not in very good English, and it doesn't answer some basic questions about how to use it. I emailed them and some effort was made to answer my questions. And that alone is a rare bit of effort from the mfg. I asked, however, about issues (I'll get to those) with their player and got a boilerplate non-response, prefaced with a weird "bless you" introduction I'm more accustomed to from Liberian scammers. My most recent questions were essentially ignored; I asked how to use their player (see below) and they recommended I use their player. Thanks. Not helpful.

Their player is awkward and glitchy. And they give you no instructions on how to use it. If you click on the player's "about" tab to try to learn how it works, you get information on the manufacturer and all its products, not the player. It locked up my windows 10 machine several times. I couldn't find my still photos or a couple events I recorded.

The videos are in "TS" format, something my laptop cannot play as currently configured. So I looked around on the internet and downloaded a free "TS" format video viewer called "VLC Media Player," and it works great. Time stamped 3 minute videos are there, still photos are there, and things I "locked" are saved as "events." This third party free program fixed my biggest frustration with the product. I still have a question about the product I don't know the answer to. If an "event" happens, like an accident in front of me, and within 10 seconds or so I push the "lock" button, does it back up some? So I don't lose something happening in the last 3 seconds of the 3 minute section containing the accident but just before the one running when I hit the lock button? I installed a 128 GB card so nothing is going to be quickly overwritten anyway.

So overall, for the price, I am very pleased with it. Daytime video and stills are really good. A still of a three car snowy pile-up is attached to this review. The GPS gizmo worked fine, but I'm not sure I always want my speed recorded and the vehicle already has a compass and two speedometers built in. So I won't be using that. Due to the oddness of the instructions, which don't cover some basic things, you do have to do some figuring out on your own. It wasn't hard though.

If this one has a decent lifespan I'd gladly get another down the road. I'll probably get another for a second car too.

    ** Updated**

Ok, so I bought this based on the reviews.
I originally gave it 3 stars, but upgraded it to 4 then 5, because of interactions with their service team, whom are very keen on making things right. I upgraded it again to 5 because their solutions and actions were great.

So, now that I have this all installed, I went out in the deep darkness for a test.
I thought that it works pretty good, but let me get into the details.

    Cameras:
I found the original rear camera had a rather grainy image in the dark, but useable, I suppose I was expecting it to be a bit more of an eye into darkness than it turned out.
Am I disappointed?; well no not really, maybe some… but I did think it should be a bit better than it is.
Graininess shouldn’t be affected even considering it was installed inside the rear hatch window. The forward image is great and it’s behind a window…

So The next day it was sunny and I went for another drive. So now i find some new issues:
When driving with the sun out, looking at the rear image, there is a lot of problem with reflections. I am guessing it’s because it’s mounted on the inside, oh well, for now that will have to do until I can figure out how to mount it outside in such a place that is useful, I may try adding a small black cardboard sun shade over the lens to see if that helps.

I don’t really want to mount it outside And offset from the hatch handle (the handle is right in the center) for several reasons, first being that I don’t want it staring straight into the guy behind me’s headlights and second I don’t want some punks walking by and seeing it dangling there and decide to damage it, rip it off or diddle with it. So inside it stays for now.

    ** Update **
Wolfbox customer service got in touch with me after they read my review and offered to ship me a new better model rear camera, it came very fast and now that it’s installed, i can say i like the rear image much better. Much less grainy.

    Front camera:
I find the clarity and overall look and brightness are really great.

    Software:
So when using the setup, I found a problem that bothers me. If you are dealing with the reflections and want to turn off the screen, and use it like a regular mirror, it stops recording if you are in the brightness mode.

If you put it on “screen off mode”, that issue is avoided, because it turns off the screen and keeps recording after it stays lit for 30sec, so ok… but it would be nicer to have an onscreen button that you could do that with because now if i’m driving at night and want it on, you have to go into settings and monkey around to get it back to being on all the time… grrrr And then of course the screen is really dark in mirror only mode which is very sad. The manuals descriptions of the modes is poor.

    ** Update **

Tech support said that “quick” touching the power button will also turn it off but allow for continuous recording in mirror only mode. Ok, that helps!

I love the touch screen, and the software is clean and easy to use minus the issues I mentioned with the screen off options.
I love how i only have to touch the screen like an iPad to move the image angle up or down.

Also, the file system seems very weird. After reviewing the files on my computer it seems that I can see all the files as expected, you can only review forward files while on the mirror, I can’t see any files for the rear camera on the mirror, only on the computer… not a deal breaker at all.

    Device body and design:
Another issue I have is the very poor “thought” design of the cables where they connect to the unit… 3 different shapes and angles, you would think they would design it in such a way that they would all face the same direction and sit nicely side by side instead of all hap hazard… see pics. (i’ll get a better pic soon)

It would be nice if the PCB had the memory card to one side or the other rather than in-between the rear cam and gps wire connections. But not a deal breaker.

    GPS and LDWS
I tried the gps gizmo and took it out - absolutely useless and distracting.

    Supplied cables and lengths.
I have a 2013 grand caravan and I found the rear camera extension wire was “just” long enough, if i have to mount it down near the license plate it might not make it unless i routed it as a straight shot through the head liner rather than around the perimeter under the edges.
Also, The front power wire is just barely long enough and i mean barely it would be nice to see it 6 inches or more longer.

I originally bought a 10inch unit - and “that” was too small just incase you’re trying to figure out which one you need.

    Security Features:
There is a consideration to make when you buy one of these you may need to know.

It has to do with the leaving the camera on 24/7 on a non keyed 12v outlet, I tested the unit after i installed it and it is drawing about 0.3amps, so if you have a 45 or so amp hour battery, the battery will be dead or unable to start the car in about 3 to 6 days, so if you don’t drive everyday - so as to recharge the battery, you might want to not bother with the security cam feature.

If you do, you should get the adapter kit that is suppose to prevent drawing the battery out completely, but again, if you don’t drive it everyday, that kit will only just cut off the battery so it doesn’t kill it, and you’ll still be not recording after maybe 4 - 6 days.

However! - just to be clear, all this draining on a 24/7 recording program, is going to hurt your battery long term, because draining a flooded lead acid battery to 75% every 3 - 6 days is not good for it.
You might want to get a heated LifepO4 lithium or at least an AGM battery rather than a basic lead acid flooded battery. But I am ranting here… this not the fault of the dash cam… you could buy your battery at costco and just replace it under warranty in 3 years if it gets weak.

Or, maybe getting a small dedicated additional battery that you hide somewhere for the camera to draw from, which your alternator charges maybe with an isolator switch to have while your driving, just saying.

That of course will likely have to be professionally installed to be useful. I just wouldn’t bother.

I am just going to use it in my keyed 12v outlet thanks, and for that it seems so far to be great. I find if i need security recording - i just switch the prong to my non keyed outlet for as long as i need it then i put it back.

    **Update**
I received some info from tech support concerning the recording in off keyed mode, apparently they say that there is circuitry embedded that prevents it draining the battery past 12v. I knew I wasn’t going anywhere over the holidays, So I put the adapter into my non keyed outlet and after 3 days my battery was stone dead at 8.4v - yup had to get a jump to start it.

So I will leave it in the keyed adapter from now on, but regardless I still don’t like the idea of leaving any sort of parasitic device eating away at my battery even if I am charging it every day.

I know many of you are not electrically savvy and think that there is nothing to consider when making changes to your systems, that all is rosy and possible.

As I said; if you do use it in non keyed mode or with it running straight off the battery AND you tend to not drive everyday, you should have something other than a lead acid battery installed, and the additional kit that protects the battery because LONGTERM your going to shorten your batteries life and unless you drive everyday, you are going to drain out.

So overall - you can’t go wrong buying this unit! Support is great, and the product is well thought out for the most part. I may be a bit weird about protecting batteries, but that’s me. If you’re looking for a good dashcam mirror, this one is worth getting in my opinion.
