In addition to it, the tool feels solid and compact. It has nicely rounded edges. Makes it convenient to hold when necessary and does not catch on other objects. The sound is loud enough unless your first row to the compressor motor or Metallica's stage at a concert. In this case the side lights are bright enough to advise too. Only the display has something more to be desired from. Digits are not that big on it and the display itself is somewhat recessed behind a thick plexiglass window which dims the contrast in lower light. I didn't notice backlight in the display. Most likely there's none.
The ARM602-4A arrived in a case that was sealed with a zip tie and included a certificate of calibration, instructions and two 2032 batteries. It measures torque in Newton meters, Kilogram-Centimeters, Foot Pounds and Inch Pounds.
While calibrating the Craftsman Microtork, the readings on the ARM602-4A seemed to match the calibration readings from the certificate of calibration. The difference between multiple readings at the same torque on the wrench was within .5 Foot Pounds, just like the certificate stated the unit had performed during testing. The audible alarm worked perfectly and the unit lit up when the set amount of torque was approached and reached as well.
I could also set the unit to measure peak torque, without programming a set torque spec while I was calibrating the wrench. This allowed me to change the settings on the Microtork, without having to do anything more than clear the peak reading stored on the ARM602-4A.
The unit is kind of large for some applications and so is a 1/2 inch torque wrench head. So, both will require extensions in some cases for clearance.
The only downside I found was with the display. My 52 year old eyes needed my reading glasses to make sure I had the Peak and Foot Pounds settings on. While I could read and set the torque without glasses, I had to make sure I had direct light to do so. A backlit display would have been great, but I also understand that feature would shorten battery life.
The instructions were very accurate as they mention that when the batteries are low, the display is difficult to read. My display was difficult to read about 10 minutes after powering on and the unit was completely dead about 5 minutes later. I was concerned I had a defective unit, but before returning it, I bought and installed a new pair of batteries. So, if you make this purchase, do yourself a favor and purchase two new 2032 batteries.
In the end, because of the way this unit has performed so far, I purchased a 3/8 ARM602-3 to use on lower torque fasteners.
The pros of this device are its increased precision (which I was able to test and determine to my satisfaction against the other wrenches) and indication of torque through lights and beeps. It felt very intuitive to tighten the nut slowly, with an indication it was getting closer and closer to the desired torque until it finally confirms fully torqued. The readout confirms the highest torque applied (until cleared).
The downside to me was the readout could be clearer, as the viewing angles aren't amazing, and figuring out how to select a setting and which measurement felt poorly designed. The device reuses a single button for changing modes by single presses or long presses (but not long enough to turn it off). If it had just one more dedicated button for toggling set or measure mode I feel this would be much easier to use.
For testing out of interest, I used both of the cheaper wrenches to tighten a bolt to 76 ft.lbs. first with one wrench, then tried torquing it again with this digital reader and a fixed wrench, and finally with the other wrench. I did this several times in each order (with the digital reader always in the middle). The results were the cheaper torque wrenches were almost always just slightly off, mine were a little over-tightened. This digital version would let me get to the same torque or add another lb without actually tightening the bolt further past that reading on several attempts. Using the other wrench at the end would sometimes end up tightening the bolt just a tiny bit more before "popping" and sometimes popping before turning the bolt further.
Wrapping up this longer review -- the digital wrenches seem like they're more consistent and precise as advertised. This device can be added to nearly any wrench to temporarily turn it into a torque wrench. It's requires a little more delicacy and going slower without a "pop" to indicate it's done but I'm definitely more confident in the torque applied and confirmed (for me) it was very repeatable.
I completely recommend this device to anyone needing to do occasional work where specific torques are needed and aren't interested in having a dedicated wrench for it.
The operating temperature according to the user manual is 32 - 122 deg F. I may return this.
