My daughter is going into auto mechanics at the local tech school and needed starter set of tools to intern with. Her instructor said De Walt makes really good tools and it was a great set up. The other students were impressed as well. Although not complete for her field, all I need to do was add a few more tools and she has all the basic tools she needs to work the trade. We also tried them out while changing the diffs and transfer case on a 4runner. heavy duty feel and sockets are strong and stay put. I would say I saved about 80 percent against a set of snap on tools and that would be with the student discount. Yes, she will have to add extended socket sizes, but overall and excellent value.

Dewalt tools have gotten better over the years but normally it's a name you can count on lasting. I do like the durability it has not only using the product but even the look of it is tuff. I also like how everything is arranged in the durable case but the only thing bad I can say about it is that someof the smaller sockets fall out when you open it . Seen this on other reviews but glad I purchased it anyways. 😀

I wish this kit had more open end wrench options and less hex keys, but beggar's can't be choosers, and I'll likely need to purchase further wrenches. I feel this kit has the best balance though between variety and features compared to the other DeWalt socket kits, and still provides much greater value compared to buying the pieces separately. The quality feels near professional grade except for the hand driver/screwdriver handle. I've found the same issue with other DeWalt screwdrivers being almost an after thought. Why are screwdrivers so hard DeWalt? Are you in collusion to sell Klines? Buy this kit for the socket selection, but find yourself a good screwdriver set elsewhere.

So far so good. This set seems to be as good as I need. I kept the foam that comes inside and I cut the cardboard case it came in to fit in-between the two sides and not one piece comes out of the spot it is suppose to be in. Every time I open the case every thing is in order.

The only problem I have with the Dewalt Mechanics tool set is that when you open the case you will find the same ratchet sockets fall out of its holding compartment. Do not ever close the case from the wrong side or you will have every socket fall out of the case and you will spend the next 30 minutes putting it back in the correct order.

EDIT 03/03/2022 - added a Con to the review. Still 5 stars though.

Pros:
- a huge number of tools, everything you need to work on cars! This includes your normal 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" drive sockets (regular and deep) and ratchets and a short AND long extension for each drive size, which is awesome!
- Everything is HEAVY and tough.
- The ratchets are super solid and feed really great in your hand as well. The ratchets do not have a release button, sockets just push on and pull off, but I haven't had any issues with sockets falling off. I would have to go freeze in my garage to see if there's a ball detent on them, but they stay on and that's all I care about. They have 72 teeth (which most quality ratchets start at nowadays), so not as fine control as Snap On's (ridiculously expensive) ratchets for example, but they feel like really good quality, with no free play.
- includes a set of combination wrenches, and having bought an identical long 14mm wrench from Partsource in the past, I can tell you a single one of these wrenches retails for $10-15 EACH.
- the case is HUGE. When the box arrived at my house, I thought "why did they put it in such a massive box?" It turns out the set is big, and incredibly heavy. I weighed it at 33.5 pounds. This says good things about the quality, but makes it a bit unwieldy to take to a junkyard to get parts for example. The latches are metal, 2 on the front and one on each side. The whole thing feels like it would survive an earthquake or explosion, but man is it heavy.
- YES THE SOCKETS CLICK IN AND DO NOT FALL OUT. I replaced my previous Mastercraft Maximum socket set specifically because all the sockets fell out all the time which drove me insane. I'm not having that problem with this set, thank goodness. If they did fall out, I would have returned this set already. I literally gave my old one to a friend because it annoyed me so much.
- DeWalt Mechanic's tools come with a FULL LIFETIME WARRANTY, fulfilled directly by DeWalt, just call the number given on their website and they will replace any included tool that breaks FOR ANY REASON. There are no limitations on this as far as I can see, so hammer the wrenches as much as you need to in order to break them rusty fasteners loose!
- the price on this set (247 piece mechanic's tool set) is different right now, I imagine because all the stock in the Amazon warehouse is cleared out and it's only third party sellers. When I bought it, the set was $203 with Prime shipping, and I consider that an excellent price for what you're getting. I searched around at Canadian Tire, Home Depot, Lowe's, etc. before purchasing, and this was the best deal anywhere locally or online. If this set comes around at this price again, I would 100% recommend it for anyone who is in the market for a complete set of hand tools.

Cons:
- there is no socket driver attachment for the ratchet, but the bits fit in the 1/4" SAE socket in case anyone finds themselves in the same situation I did. I would prefer there to be a dedicated receiver for the bits, but that does work.
