NOTE: If you own a Mercedes S550 from 2007 to 2009 or maybe longer be aware that Mercedes configured some cars to use 315MHz TMPS senders and others to use 433MHz. Armed with your VIN call your local Mercedes dealer and ask them which you have. That way to can avoid the expensive mistake I made of believing all the online vendors that will swear blind that your car needs 433MHz units. Mine uses 315MHz ones.
UPDATE: I saw some bad reviews that mentioned that the sensor(s) were installed then they tried to program the sensor with the tire inflated. They will only accept programming when there is less than 5psi in the tire.
- 6/15/2020 3 years and 500+ Sensors with no comebacks yet or dead batteries yet!!!! The only hold up I had was with an 18 Camry that the sensors would not work correctly with but after 30 minutes with autel support we corrected the problem with a software update on my TPMS tool. These are the best!!!!
- 11/24/21 Still working great!!!!
On my second attempt I "helped" the valve seat by applying pressure on one side with a 10mm socket and pulling it through on the other side with the valve installation tool. It required nearly the same amount of force as the first attempt where I felt something "give", so I'm not confident that the second one is not stressed to the point of premature failure.
When comparing it to an ordinary rubber valve stem a couple things are apparent to me. First of all the brass metal core doesn't allow the stem to compress inwards towards the hollow cavity. I think this is why it was so difficult to seat compared to an ordinary stem.
Second, you can see the Autel valve stem is shiny and the ordinary rubber one looks more matte. I don't think they are using a regular rubber. It is pliable and smooth, and your first thought when handling is "oh this is nice", but cutting/removing an old rubber valve stem took substantially more effort than it took to destroy the Autel one. Whatever the material is, I'm sure it seals well, but it just doesn't have the toughness of rubber (no idea if rubber valve stems are vulcanized, this is just my observations).
