* Telescoping sleeve means no exposed threads, grease, oil, mess.
Threaded rod is much smaller than other spring compressors because the telescoping sleeve takes the bending load, not the threaded rod. These were stable and easy to use. I didn't use the included arch fitting to connect the two compressors - they stayed put and worked fine.
Used for a Ford Expedition. They were appropriately sized and appeared to operate well within their load capacity. Definitely recommended.
I added MoS2 lubricant to the threads. However, the threads were well lubricated to start with. Best part is that the lube does not get contaminated because they are encased within the telescoping sleeves. No mess.
First let me say that at the end of the day these worked fine, felt solid and had no issues with their performance. I would recommend them but I don't know if they are actually any better than the more traditional threaded rod type of unit. These basically utilize the same threaded rod technique but they are internal to the cylinders. In my case the larger cylinders made it impossible to compress the spring while installed in the vehicle. My springs are for a an aftermarket adjustable lift kit (Ironman Foam Cell Pro) and they are really heavy duty. My desire was to compress and adjust the spring without removing them but the bulkiness of this item prevented that where I think a more traditional model would have had clearance.
With that said, after removing the coilovers, these compressors did the trick and accommodated the large diameter springs with no problem. They felt very solid and I was confident they were not going to slip. I was able to compress them using a ratchet with no struggles.
As others have said the "slip guard" brace seemed a bit useless even though I did use it while performing the compressions.
All in all I would recommend this item based off of my experience with it.
