Overall good product but has design issues
Generally speaking this compressor set is billed as being "heavy duty". While that may be the case in comparison to the cheaper $30 pair of compressors, I didn't find these as fitting of their description. Somehow I expected a beefier set, with more weight and most importantly larger diameter jack screws. But that wasn't the case. These screws weren't that much bigger than the cheaper variant and the bolt head size is 17 mm, which is different (smaller) than all of the other spring compressors I've used. The bolt head on the $30 set for example is 21 mm.I suppose that the most noteable aspect of my experience with these compressors was the connecting bar. I found it clunky and difficult to use. The screws that hold it into place merely thread into the connecting hook. This is hardly sufficient, even when you cinch it down well with the hex key. I would have expected the bolt to be longer and for there to be a nut on the opposite side; but there wasn't. So what happened in my case was that these short-in-length bolts would come undone even by the slightest movement of the assembly. And that resulted in compressor walk, which is the very thing that the connecting bar is supposed to prevent. Granted the compressors weren't under much tension at that point, but still, the walk shouldn't have occurred. If I ever use the connecting bar again I will make a trip to a big box store first to source some longer bolts of the same diameter and pitch, as well as locking nuts for the ends of those bolts. If you could fasten the connecting bar more securely then perhaps it might hold. The final aspect of this connecting bar experience was that one of the hooks bent during the compression cycle. That made things a real pain during decompression. Inline with my general feedback I would have liked to have seen those hooks be made of thicker material. I'm tempted to replicate them on a laser jet but of a greater thickness. Just not sure it would be worth the effort considering the following: I found that the best approach was to use these "heavy duty" compressors in conjunction with the $30 variant, as seen in the second picture. That combination gave me the most peace of mind, knowing that no single compressor would hold approximately 1/2 of the tension at any point in time. Due to the size, I think it would have been difficult to use 4 of these "heavy duty" compressors, but with the smaller size of the $30 stuff, it was a good fit.And so that would ultimately be my recommendation. The one downside is that you must continually change your socket from 21 mm to 17 mm and back when operating like this.As a PS note: I greased these screws and ran them through several times. The instructions that come with the product state that you *CAN* use an impact wrench while the ones online say not to do that. Thus it would be good if that discrepancy could be resolved. I used an impact on all 4 and didn't experience any issue. Good luck!

5.0 out of 5 stars Worked like a charm
Reviewed in the United States on October 16, 2021
I used this to replace the front shocks on my 2014 GMC Sierra Denali. I have used J-hook-type spring compressors in the past and they have never been that incredible to use. They were always from the auto part store's 'Loan-a-Tool' program and while they worked, they always seemed a bit sketchy in their operation. These were the largest coil springs I have ever used this type of compressor on and I had heard of other people's issues with Loaner compressors in this application - so I decided I'd purchase a set vs using a Loaner again. I saw this set used in a video on the same vehicle and I read a LOT of reviews here on it and decided to give them a try. Before using them, I did lubricate ALL threads with bearing grease for additional lubrication. They did arrive with a nice oil coating on them, but a heavier lubricant couldn't hurt. I was pretty impressed on how rock solid they felt during operation and my use. I did NOT use the included stabilizer bar that would fasten to each of the individual compressors offering additional stabilization. Based on the feel of these during compression, I didn't feel that it would be necessary. I don't feel that I will need these very often, but based on the sturdy feel of them, I don't think that it would be a problem if I did. The pricing seemed reasonable, even if I never use them again. A shop should have charged me as much, if not more, to just swap the shocks out after I had removed them from the vehicle. If I had to do it all over, I'd definitely buy this set again.
