I replaced the front rotors/pads on my 2004 Toyota Tundra. Brakes may have been misused by my wife or former owner (maybe even me). They vibrated even during low speed stops. After replacing the rotors and pads, the brakes are very smooth now. Just be sure to break them in using the supplied recommendations. You need a pretty long stretch of lightly used road where you can get up to about 40 mph or so and do some pretty hard stops with some cool down periods. Doesn't take long and the results are worth it.

Be sure to do some close inspections of the condition of your calipers and associated rubber boots and lines. I found a caliper boot that was not fitted properly from the factory or perhaps last pad replacement. I was worried that water had seeped into the caliper pistons, but all seems well and the rubber was still pliable.

As always, stay safe - follow all instructions, use safe jack stands and wheel chocks. And have fun. I do everytime I do something myself AND I learn things. Youtube is your friend.

2005 Tundra (Gen 1), V8 4WD. I've had a couple brake jobs on this thing over the years, warped and turned rotors I think, three times? Replaces once, warped again. Then some remanufactured calipers decided to seize on me just out of warranty. I'd had enough, decided to overdo it a bit myself instead of another shop dice roll.

Best decision so far. The installation was straightforward, hadn't done a brake job before, but internet videos exist in multitude, and I can be patient. Pads bedded in beautifully, zero squeaks. Excellent stopping power. Got through a winter with a few good snow days - The surface rust on the rotor is likely from the wheel. Salt, lots of salt. And probably half the 11k was on Dirt.

I don't do tons of heavy hauling or trailer work, but the bits I did do went just great. All and all, it was worth the investment.

Quality control is horrendous. Please do yourself a favor and buy local where you can inspect the parts before you install them. I ordered the rotor and pad kit separate from the calipers. One rotor wasn’t cast correctly but I had to put the truck together like this. It’s already been down a week waiting for these to get here. Second issue was one of the pistons in the caliper wouldn’t sit flush back in the caliper like the rest of them. I tried using a clamp to push it back in farther but it wouldn’t go. I put it on hoping I’d still have enough clearance to install the pads and it would work fine. No luck. Installed everything and it’s bound up so hard it the rotor won’t even turn. If I could give PowerStop a negative 5 stars I would. This is total BS I have to send all of this back and find another source. AVOID POWERSTOP. Buy local better quality parts.

I have a 1999 Runner Limited and was using Akebono pads with cross-drilled/slotted rotors in the OE size. I had recently replaced the brake booster, master cylinder, wheel cylinders and rear brake shoes. Prior to that, I replaced the rubber brake lines with Powerstop braided lines up front and a Sonoran Steel extended line for the rear.

I bought these on sale for under $500 which was a great deal considering it was a complete kit with rebuilt OE calipers. They fit like the factory brakes but I did have to trim the dust shield. I have 17" wheels, so I didn't have any clearance issues.

The only issue I had was getting the hard brake line attached to the caliper because I could not get the thread started. To make it easier, I disconnected the small hard brake line from the flexible brake line and connected to the caliper. Then I connected the flexible line to it.

I bleed the brakes, then drove around and engaged the ABS on gravel a few times, then bleed them again and adjusted the rear brakes. Then I engaged the ABS again and did a final bleed. Once I did that, the soft pedal feel was gone.

When cold, they are not great but once they are warmed up, there is a HUGE difference in stopping distance. (Edit) I have had a couple of close calls when the pads have been cold so I am going to be replacing them with either OE or Akebono.

One thing that I didn't like is that the bleeder screws are 8mm instead of 10mm. But that is an easy fix, especially if you know ahead of time.

So...I combed the 4runner boards for recommendations on the best way to upgrade my front brakes on my 1999 4runner. This is the kit that was recommended. Not the cheapest route but one of the better alternatives. I anxiously awaited the delivery. It came on time and as described by Amazon. The snafu happened when I removed my old calipers and rotor and realized that this particular kit's rotors were over an inch bigger in diameter than the ones that I had taken off. Instant panic. Had I ordered the wrong one? Had Amazon shipped the wrong rotors? (The calipers were the 13WL so that was correct). As it turned out it was the correct one after all. What I did not know was that the base 4runners came with 15 inch wheels and smaller rotors to accommodate the small wheel diameter. The rotors and calipers bolted up as they should. But only after I trimmed the dust shield (I knew that I was going to have to that) and bent the dust shield back away from the outer edge of the larger rotor.
It took a full Saturday to replace calipers, rotors, brake lines, trim shields, paint rusty parts. And bed the pads and rotors.
Looks good.
But the most important thing is that it stops on a dime and doesn't immediately heat up and warp the rotors as it did with the original equipment.
I would recommend this to anyone who has a 3rd generation 4runner. But be aware that the dust shield might be for a 15 inch wheel set up.
