About us
Arthur and Sadie Warn started a Willys dealership in Southpark, Washington in the 1930s, then founded Warn Industries in 1948. This new company began with an idea for converting thousands of surplus World War II Jeeps into useful, on-road vehicles. Arthur’s extraordinary invention had many patents, and his invention of locking wheel hubs would revolutionize the automotive industry. And while the business started with door-to-door sales in Seattle, it grew into a booming mail order business thanks to ads in the back of Popular Mechanics—Sadie’s idea. Eventually, Arthur started working with Belleview Manufacturing in Portland, OR, and by 1954, WARN locking hubs were offered as optional factory equipment by major domestic automotive manufacturers. More than 70 years later, WARN hubs are still the most trusted brand in the off-road market today.

Drawbacks -
1. The control cable is only about 10' long. So while I can do things by myself I can't get to the back of the 16' trailer and still have control over the winch while loading.
2. the cable is starting to fray at points - most likely because I've tried pulling far more than the winch is rated at but something to consider. I think the cable should have been up-sized a little but again it's probably from me overloading it
3. Cable length - again i'm working with a 16' trailer - the 35' of cable they include does give me some extra length to get into the wood pile and beyond but a 50' would be ideal
4. cable tensioner - this is the part that is supposed to keep pressure on the cable that is on the winch drum. It is set with such low pressure that it does not help if you have the winch down to the last layer or two of cable. this means unless you try to keep pressure on it manually (which won't happen if your free-spooling) the cable will ultimately have to be pulled out completely and re-wound or you'll have to have someone else closer to the winch to keep it from getting bunched up. It's only a small piece of tin and can probably be bent to put more pressure on the drum but just something i've noticed with the first 40 or 50 uses of the unit.
