McGard Lug Nuts
McGard lug nut comparison chart

As you can see by these unretouched photos above, McGard lug nuts look great even after 1, 3 and 5 years of exposure. If you were to wipe off the residue from the CASS test, you’d have a hard time telling they weren’t new. Unlike the other brands, McGard lug nuts are designed and built to be used!

We tested our regular and bulge style acorn lug nuts against four competitors(A, B, C and D above) in a CASS (copper-accelerated acetic acid-salt spray) chamber. This test was developed by the American Electroplaters Society to measure the specific corrosion resistance of nickel-chromium platings. It involves subjecting plated parts to a salt solution at a specific temperature, pressure and length of time to emulate exposure to the elements.

Accelerated tests like this are employed by car manufacturers to measure quality and performance. A 22 hr. CASS cycle is considered to be equivalent to one year of exposure in Detroit weather conditions. Before each 22 hour CASS cycle the lug nuts were installed and removed using a lug wrench to simulate normal use.

Product Description

Chrome plated lug nuts lead a tough life. Think about it, harsh elements, nasty corrosive wheel cleaners and lead-foot drivers. Not to mention overzealous impact guns and loose fitting lug wrenches. This kind of treatment destroys ordinary lug nuts which turns even the best looking wheels ugly. Tough Nuts can take the punishment and keep your wheels looking beautiful. chip or peel. McGard manufactures lug nuts in the USA to meet or exceed OEM standards for safety and durability. McGard's plating process includes three layers of nickel and one layer of microporous chrome/black producing a superior finish while protecting against rust. Tough Nuts are designed and built for the real world, because life is tough. Bulge Style Cone Seat lug nuts have an extended seating surface that is designed to match the wider seating surface used on some aluminum wheels. For use with steel or aluminum wheels with exposed decorative lug nuts that are tapered at the bottom. This product may contain globally sourced materials/components.

Look great while avoiding rust jacking issue of OEM two-piece lug nuts
I purchased these to use on my 2023 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing. After just one instance of removing and reinstalling the factory lug nuts (to put on my “winter” all-season wheels & tires) I knew I wanted to replace the OEM nuts. The OEM nuts felt the same as the ones that came on my Tahoe - you could feel the thin cosmetic layer over the load-bearing lug below. In the salt belt it was simply a matter of time until the two-piece lugs became a liability after they had become distorted and not quite the right size. These aftermarket lugs fit well and look the business. The black finish goes well with both my summer and winter wheels.NOTE: These are compatible with the CT4-V BLACKWING, but not other CT4 models. The other models use 12mm studs, not 14mm.

I replaced my 2019 Ford Edge swollen lugs with these. They are definitely great quality. I did my research on several forums and review sites. Top 2 were McGuard and Gorilla. I decided on these. So far so good. The feel of them are definitely high quality and went on like butter. Torqued to spec and now we wait. Just a reminder on my 2019 Ford Edge current wrench size is a 19mm. These new lugs are 22 mm so you need to buy a new wrench to keep in storage just in case you change a flat. Also if your lugs are getting swollen the current factory lug wrench won't fit. Keep that in mind too.

Bought these and paired them with the McGard 24216 lock nuts. Before and after pictures attached. Had polished/chrome lugs from the dealership, no lock nuts. My wheels are more of a matte but from a distance it all looks pretty good. Used a bit of anti-seize when installed. Seated just fine and didn't crack or anything while torquing them down. Original lugs came off with lug wrench by-hand, new ones torqued by hand with the lug wrench. Will remove one or two after some mileage and rain/weather to see if there's any corrosion/rusting.

4/6/22 Edit: These have been through tire rotations, the wet winter season, and day to day driving conditions for about 9,000 miles now. The paint hasn't chipped or anything when being removed by the dealer to do tire rotations, there isn't any rusting internally, they haven't loosened over time, and they're still looking good.

Package arrived on time and in good condition.
The wheel nuts fit my 2018 Grand Cherokee winter steel rims. Steel rims are thinner so I am sure the nuts will work fine with my summer aluminium rims. The nuts finish look more durable than the painted nuts I previously bought (Coyote brand). Frequent tire changes and tough Canadian winters shall test these nuts to the limit.
