On unboxing, everything was solid and well made in appearance. All parts were present and in good shape.
Installation took a bit longer than I'd hoped. The biggest single issue was cleanly cutting the jounce bumpers down to the correct size. If at all possible, beg, borrow, or lease time in a garage by with a vehicle lift. I didn't lift the truck at all and maneuvering to cut the bumpers was a chore. Once that was done, however, installation proceeded quickly and fairly easily. I ran the air lines to be accessed behind the gas cap door without any problem--but do yourself a favor and buy some longer cable ties, you won't regret it. I also used a T, so both lifts are fed off one line.
Now to the meat--how well do they work?
I'm pulling a 6800-lb travel trailer with a 2016 Tundra. After loading, the tongue weight approaches the max recommended for the truck (yeah, yeah, not the smartest thing). and on the pull from the dealership, there was a lot squat and porpoising, even with the mid-range weight-distributing hitch we'd purchased.
I'd ordered the Air Lift product after that 3-hour rolling bouncy-house towing experience and did the installation the afternoon before our next trip. The Air Lifts did get the rear-end up to where it should be, which provided a leveler towing experience. Porpoising was all but eliminated and the ride much more positive control-wise.
I measured the correction provided by the product and found that while the rear end was fully corrected, the front end lift was not improved, i.e., the front end didn't drop at all, let alone to its unloaded height or anywhere close. That said, I'll reiterate that steering and control WAS improved quite a bit after installation.
Bottom line, do I recommend the product? Yup, I do. There are a couple of other things I could probably do (and probably will do at some point) but for now, these work well for me.
When i first started looking however the Ultimate was not an option, but for an extra dollar to have the jounce spring in the unit so if it does blead the air pressure and deflate to have that as fail safe was great.
Installed it within 2.5 hrs. (I took longer than probably most because i coated all the shinny parts with rust converter to have them all black to blend in with truck and for preventative maintance in future.)
Installed extremly easy did not have to drill any holes only had to cut off factory jounce bumber which came right off.
I'm not sure if i will buy the wireless air compressor because so far the bags have been keeping pressure and not deflatting. I fill them up with my 5 gal air tank i bought for $25 which takes me a grand time of 60 seconds which includes removing tank from truck, removing valve stem covers, filling bags, checking pressure, and replacing valve stem covers. Really difficult i know.
I will worn people if you DO NOT use your tundra to haul heavy loads the majority of the time and use it for daily comuting empty i probably would not buy this heavy of an airbag. The nice luxury ride you get in a stock tundra will no longer be there after you install these.
I don't drive my truck empty very ofton, but when its loaded these airbags make a HUGE difference, i dont feel like i need to use my weight distribution hitch anymore for 8000lb loaded trailers.
So if you pull trailers with your Tundra, Definatly BUY!
Extra bonus, Amazon was cheapest price, no taxs and no shipping costs, PLUS you still get a $50 rebate from Airlift. WIN WIN WIN
Amazon Prime also got me free shipping and elivered in 2 days!
Air Lift also had a $50 rebate for orders till mid-Feb, 2015!
Kit installed fairly easily. Deep well sockets definitely helped a LOT on those long u-bolts! I used a sawzall to cut the excess of the u-bolts and the stock jounce bumpers. Sawzall made those cuts a snap!
I put the axle on jack stands to take tires off, then also jacked up the body (at the hitch) about 4 more inches to help get the air bags in there between the leaf springs and the body. Seems it would have been impossible to get those bags in there without doing that..
Kit was VERY good quality. I am very happy with it. Mine came with the roll plates powder coated black and the air fittings were ALL brass. Not the cheap white plastic pictured on the listing.
I do have to say that the kit raised the back wheel wells on my 2008 SR5 Tundra 5.7L 4x4 a little less than 1 inch. Not perfectly level anymore :( Oh well..
Also, the ride is definitely a little bouncier.. Not necessarily rougher, or harder- just a little bouncier in the back-end. Not too happy about that, but I am sure these bags will make up for it when I haul my 29 foot travel trailer with 1,000 pound tongue weight. Haven't tried that with these installed yet.
When I say it is bouncier, this is with the min of 5PSI in each bag.
