like other reviwers i found many well adhered stickers. suspect a leagal requirement to id & post health warnings etc. (the product is a hazardous material.)
i (carefully) used a single edge razor and scraped with the roll to remove most of the labels. then used "goof-off" cleaning product to easily remove all that adhesive. while it did take a good 10 minutes, that mag rod is now clean bare & naked. just sayin.
5 stars as this magnesium anode is a backup for the aluminum one just installed. so while it won't get tested in the very near future, it is designed to plug n play and i expect it to work just fine.
impressive product, packing, price and speedy delivery too. recommended.
Seller responded immediately and all resolved - excellent.
You'll need a TEKTON 1/2 Inch Drive x 1-1/16 Inch Deep 6-Point Impact Socket.
And possibly an impact gun + compressor.
The socket was a bit too large to fit into the hole so had to grind down outside diameter.
They must have really torqued down on the original manufacture.
Impossible to remove with breaker bar and pipe for leverage.
Impact gun on full setting got it out.
Teflon tape on install and breaker bar reasonably tight.
You need to flush your tank every 6 months - easy.
And change your anode - oh - every 5 years?
Water heaters are freakin' expensive and costly for some "plumber" type to install.
Little known secret - the water heater will last 25+ years if you just maintain it.

A word of caution when trying to get the existing one out of the tank. I tried using a long breaker bar with the 1-1/16" socket. My Rheem water tank is about two years old and pretty much still "new". As others have pointed out, it is very hard to get the threads loose. Make sure you:
1) Stop the water flow into the tank
2) turn on a faucet or two upstairs
3) drain some water out of the tank
4) put a bucket that fits under the release pressure valve tube
5) turn the heater off or put it into pilot mode
5) the most important thing - release the pressure valve.
Thank God I had an electric impact driver which I had used for stubborn over-tightened lug nuts tightened by stupid shop mechanics. After using the impact driver on the bolt head of the anode until I can see a bit of counter-clockwise movement, I switched to using the breaker bar. This anode rod is long for a 40-gallon tank. So, just cut with a hacksaw after measuring with the old one side by side. This 0.9-inch diameter rod fits nicely into the Rheem anode hole on the tank. Also, make sure to use the plumbing tape on the existing or new anode rod when putting the rod back into the tank and tighten as much as possible before putting water back into the tank.
Update : The most important thing about removing the old anode rod is to secure the tank so that it does not turn. Took 2 people to hold it and was able to break the seal without too much effort using a 24 inch breaker bar. The rod is a good build and factory like - the actual length for my application is 34 3/8 inch. Install completed, thanks Amazon for providing this part. Please note - Not all anode rods are the same, one size does not fit all - Please do your research and get the right one for your application.
On the upside, once clean, it cut fairly easily to length with a hacksaw, installed with no issues, and passed an electrical continuity test. Hopefully it will protect my water tank for years to come, and when it's time to order another, by then they'll CHANGE THE STICKERS.
Bottom line.. this Magnesium rod, with part # 'SP11526C' is a perfect replacement for the rather obscure 'AP12702B'.
