Product Description
We want our trucks to do everything. Hit the trails, tow the boat to the river, take to work and transport the family on long road trips. Adding an air bag system to your full-size truck or SUV has always meant scratching at least one of those off your list. With most air bag systems, the lower air bag mount is placed above the leaf spring significantly reducing wheel travel by design. Your air bag system should compliment your truck, not inhibit its ability. Daystar's new Air Bag Cradle* (Patent Pending) mounts to your trucks lower suspension providing more room for the air bag to safely cycle with no loss of overall wheel travel. Inferior lower air bag mounts restrict air bag movement using inadequate space, which can lead to unexpected damage to the air bag. Made from extremely tough Daystar Polyurethane, the Air Bag Cradle allows for full suspension travel, while still allowing the full benefits of your air bag system. The Air Bag Cradle fits most full-size pick up trucks, and SUV's running 6-inch diameter air bags and are made in the USA.

If you are going to use your vehicle off-road, I recommend installing Daystar cradles so that the airbag does not act like a limiter strap, restrict downtravel and get damaged when the suspension droops. From what I read, it is not recommended to use airbag spacers and Daystar cradles together but you should confirm this for yourself.
The bottom of the Daystar Cradle is 3/4" thick and does act like a small spacer, adding a little lift even with less than 10 psi in the air springs.
When installing these cradles with the Firestone Ride-Rite air springs, the cradle will bolt onto the lower bracket that gets attached to the top of the axle with 4 carriage bolts holding two bracket straps under the leaf springs (see photos). Without the cradle, the air spring would be bolted directly to this lower bracket. Make sure the airbag is in good alignment before you tighten everything down. Firestone lists the torque spec for airs spring to lower bracket as 15 – 20 ft lbs, so I assumed it was the same for the cradle to the lower bracket.

I purchased the Daystar Cradles so the airbags wouldn't have to be attached to the bottem brackets anymore and were free to let the suspension drop as far as they would go and when the suspension travels back up, the cradle centers the airbags giving it a place to land without letting it slip out latteraly.
As for the j-bolts my fix for that was to toss them, cut off the parts of the lower brackets that they bolted to and welded the brackets themselves onto the jounce pads. Now I have an airbag system that works and works well without the worry of tearing the airbags apart, or stretching out cheap little j-bolts causing catastrophic helper airbag malfunction. :)
The cradle is well made and durable. Mounting is super easy.

My only suggestion is to include a torque range for the bolt. I ended up tightening until I heard some cracking plastic...then backing off a bit. I didn't see any damage or cracks running along them, so I think they're fine. But it would be nice to have a ballpark torque number to shoot for, and not find out you over-torqued by hearing things crackle...
One person mentions the hardware not fitting; that the bolt was too long and stuck up far enough that it would contact the airbag. Their truck is not the exact truck I have, but I think maybe they installed the bolt upside down. If you slide the bolt down in the cradle from the top, the head on the bolt goes into the recess there and is practically flush with the top surface of the inside of the cradle. If, however, you stick the bolt in through the bottom of the cradle up, the extra length of the bolt will stick up and contact the airbag. Just flip the darn bolt around and have the extra length sticking down towards the frame instead of up at the airbag...
