With Plasti Dip I was able to create a 1/6 scale rubberized hazmat suit for a "The Last Ship" kitbash. I've also used it to create a variety of super hero and sci-fi bashes.
For costume making, I used Plasti Dip and some hobby foam to make a Pilot from Titanfall and a friend of mine used the same to make a Kruger from Elysium costume. Both look spot on and I will attach pics after Halloween.
Also make sure you wipe the spray nozzle between coats. This will keep the spray from 'spurting' out. For normal tail lights, 4 or 5 coats is plenty dark, typically what most people would consider a 30% tint. Obviously you can go as dark as you'd like. If you're wondering how many cans you need, I'd estimate that a single can could do about 16-17 coats, so about 8 coats each for medium sized tail lights.
To do it right the first time, instead of doing both at the same time, do one tail light first, and concentrate on making consistent, light coats. That way, if you mess up and cloud up the light, you can just peel the one light off and respray instead of wasting twice the amount. It will produce a matte finish, and if you'd like it to be glossy, Plasti dip also makes a 'glossifier' which obviously does what you'd think it does.
