The heavy steel platform that you roll your car tire over to is solid and good quality. The base and pole are still in excellent condition, and the stainless clips hold 2 flags. Using a fiberglass pole is fine if using in a stable non moving situation. If you want to drive with a flag pole see my idea below.
I used as shown in the pictures a 2 foot section of 2 inch PVC as the initial sleeve into the hitch pole holder.
I then placed a 2" to 1.5" PVC reducer.
I then used a 10 foot piece of 1.5 inch PVC for the actual pole.
I needed to sand out the reducer to allow the 1.5 inch pole to slide in and out.
I drilled 1/4 inch holes all the way through the 1.5" PVC about two inches from the top and another hole all the way through about 35" down the pipe. (to accomidate the grommet holes of a 3' X 5' Flag. )
Used two 2.5 " eye bolts and two light weight Carabiners hook to secure the eye to and through the grommets.
PVC Pipes and Hardware all bought locally at Home Depot.
This worked great for a low speed parade. You can always shorten the pole or stay with a 2 inch PVC for the entire pole if you want to drive faster or just have more stability.

Yes it's thin, especially if you're used to towing hitch accessories. So I put it to the test by standing on it, jumping on it, and also twisting it with a metal pole. And yes, I'm a full grown adult over 200lbs. It did not deform, just sprung back to its original shape. Satisfied (extremely) with the quality, I set off to the hardware store to make my flag pole.
I went a bit overkill but like the saying goes, if its worth doing, its worth overdoing:
● 2-inch PVC pipe cut to 6ft - Home Depot #193852
● 2-inch PVC socket cap - Home Depot #232777
● 2x 3/8-in x 5-in Eye Bolt - Lowes #1290770
● 2x 3/8-in Flat Washer - Lowes #114193
● 2x Carabiner (Interlocking Spring Snap) - Lowes #1290730
This can be used as a template if you don't know where to start. For example, if you have a tall vehicle, you could get away with just 4ft of PVC for a standard 3ftx5ft flag. ABS pipe would save you the hassle of spray painting the white PVC. You could also size down to 1/4-in hardware, and opt for stainless steel. This is just what I could find the quickest, and under $20.
All you have to do now is drill two holes, spaced out depending on the size of your flag. I didn't want much slack for the flag so what I did is fully install the top mount, hardware, carabiner and flag, then extend the flag down to where the bottom hole needed to be with the least amount of slack. Also I made sure the flag did NOT touch the ground when stationary. I tested it on my lowest vehicle (Miata) to make sure of this.
Overall I'm very happy with my setup. I did a short drive up to 70mph and other than the pole flexing a bit, the mount held up great. I will update this review after a few trips to the beach.

I haven’t experienced more than a moderate breeze, maybe 10-15MPH, enough to hold the flags out. The pole has a little bit of flex to it, but it appears sturdy enough. The rings holding the carabiners swivel around the pole so that the flags can follow the breeze. They won’t get furled around the pole like a fixed connection would make them get.
The picture shows two in my collection of flags I’ve started. I’m looking forward to displaying the colors at each camping trip.
(ETA: Spring buttons can pop out inside the sections below them and get stuck where you can't press them. To avoid this, I turn the upper section 180° after freeing it so button can't pop back in hole when collapsed.)

I am using it on the back of my 5th wheel trailer to hold up an aluminum pole which supports my two solar panels, perfect, panels rotate towards sun with ease.
If anyone has a fix for that I'd appreciate the help please!
Other than that it's great. I fitted a PVC pipe as my pole which is snug. The screw to keep it from falling out seems to hold it tight.
