Some customers are also happy with the purchase and the promptness and professionalism of the seller, while other say that they are not detailed instructions included, just a parts diagram.

Customers have mixed opinions about the fit of the kayak transport rack. Some say that it fits fine on their Yakima rack, while others say that they are too short to fit their 32" wide kayak. The bolt heads are a tight fit, and the brackets don't quite fit into the groove they're meant to. They're also a little short to swing around the sides of their kayak when tying it down, and one customer mentions that the length of mounting hardware is too long. Overall, the fit may vary depending on the size of the crossbars and the kayak.

Customers are mixed about the stability of the transport rack. Some mention that it held their kayak (44lbs) very securely, while others say that the metal bends and becomes loose on the crossbars, creating a very dangerous situation. Some customers also say that it is easy for the strap to fall or move around while they are on the water, and that the canoe wobbles all over the place.

150 customers mention61 positive89 negative

Customers are mixed about the straps that come with the transport rack. Some mention that the strap is decent, functional, and hold their kayaks in place. However, others say that they are useless and should be thrown out. The carrier only comes with 2 straps, and there is no retainer or mounts for the strap. The position of the strap was difficult to maintain, and the included straps didn't last a season before sun rot got to them.

"...I had some concerns when I read the reviews. The straps are no good. The instructions are horrible or non-existent. Cheaply made. And on and on...." Read more

"...like I got a lot of rack for a small price -- it even came with a couple of cam straps -- I highly recommend it." Read more

"...These even come with the same straps as the more expensive brands...." Read more

Customers have negative opinions about the hole length of the transport rack. They mention that some of the bolt holes didn't line up perfectly, and some of them were difficult to insert. Some customers also report that the factory bolts wouldn't thread properly, and the brackets didn' t have the holes drilled. The major problem is that they use carriage bolts to fasten it all together, and that the size of the head of the screws is too small. It's difficult to assemble and the anchoring stove bolts are difficult to set in the holes provided. Additionally, the screws go on underneath the rack and there isn' a lot of space to retain the mounting bolt when the thumb knobs are removed.

"...that they are hard to assemble and that the anchoring stove bolts are difficult to set in the holes provided and that the locking bolts are to long..." Read more

"...Additionally, there is nothing to retain the mounting bolt when the thumb knobs are removed...." Read more

"...The bolt heads are round (yes they look good, but...) and so there was no other way to keep the bolt from turning while I was trying to ratchet the..." Read more

"...over the two parts of the J wasn’t quite right, so the holes didn’t align perfectly with the holes in the metal bars...." Read more

These are a great buy. Finish on the racks is not very good. There were scratches and nicks that will eventually rust so I would recommend taking them off and storing them inside when not in use. They are very sturdy and will work very well and that is what I wanted them for. If you want something pretty with a nice finish you will want to look at other options. After reading through a lot of the negatives posted by other people, it seemed like most of the complaints were assembly related. I work on all sorts of things so I knew I could get them together. I bought two sets of these. The first set was very easy to put together, no issues at all. I decided to time it and take some pics of the second set and give some assembly tips that may help someone else out. As luck would have it, the second set didn't go together as easily as the first set so I can see where some would say they were easy to put together and others would have a more difficult time with them. I started timing the assembly with a set that was still in a sealed box. Complete time was 24 minutes and 45 seconds. 7 minutes were spent unpacking and laying everything out on the table. I spent another 2 minutes taking pictures so the time spent actually putting the product together was just under 16 minutes for a complete set. Here are a few assembly tips:When you are sliding the first metal tube into the rubber molded part it helps to put something like a screwdriver handle into the middle of the molded rubber to help open it up for the ends of the metal tube to go in.Once you get that 1st half of metal tubing in go ahead and push the molded rubber on further than it needs to go. It is much easier to put the second half on without trying to push it into the rubber piece.Put the second half of tubing onto the first half. Now put the rounded end of the second half of metal tubing on your stomach and pull the plastic/rubber piece back over the assembled metal tube until the bolt holes line up with the holes in the molded rubber part. If you have to pull the rubber part hard you may want to put a hardback book or something between your stomach and the tube to distribute the force better. I didn't need to but there seems to be some variation in the parts from one set to the next.Put the four short bolts into the assembly in an x pattern and move the rubber part as needed to help you line everything up. Next, put in the two longer bolts. Do not install any of the nuts until you make sure you can get all of the bolts in where they belong. When installing the washers and nuts, make sure to put some pressure on the rounded end of the carriage bolts to help them drop into the square holes in the tubing that keep them from turning. If the carriage bolts are tuning while tightening the nuts, keep putting pressure on the rounded end of the bolt and it will eventually work its way into the right position, drop into the square hole in the tubing and stop turning so you can tighten up the nut. Tighten the nuts in an x pattern. Be careful not to over tighten, you don't want to crush the metal tubing.Honestly, if you have arthritis or weak hands you may want to look at other options to buy or find someone else to put them together for you.For the price, these will carry kayaks and make loading easier too. Very strong when assembled correctly. Great value!
