Important Safety Item Every Winch Owner Should Install
This WARN Power Interrupt Kit was purchased to install in a 2021 Jeep JLU in preparation for installing a WARN Zeon 12 winch. It was a bit of a project - but well worth the time. This kit allows you to use a switch inside the cabin to power your winch - rather than having power running to your winch all the time. This is important for several reasons; if you're in a front-end collision there's no high-amp live line vulnerable to cause fires or other problems compounding the accident. It also prevents bad actors from messing with your winch by not enabling power to the winch without first gaining access to inside the Jeep (you still need the winch's remote control to operate the winch).During research several calls to WARN confirmed this to be the right kit for intended use. The most difficult part of installing this kit is figuring out where - and how - to mount the solenoid in the already crowded engine bay. A sturdy, steel bracket was purchased (also off Amazon) and modified to mount firmly, creating a solid platform for the substantial solenoid. The bracket was coated with several coats of FlexSeal after drilling the appropriate mounting holes. Once the FlexSeal dried it was riv-nutted using one existing hole, and drilling one new hole in the fender well.Once the bracket/solenoid are mounted, running wires is easy. If you have the Aux Switch package (from factory), wires are stubbed out on passenger side engine bay. If you don't have the Aux Switch Package from factory, the kit provides a switch with appropriate gauge wiring. Make sure to disconnect both negative battery cables (from main and auxiliary battery) before doing any wiring. The kit also includes 4 rubberized boots to slip over the terminal connections. They take a little work to massage into place (remember to slip them onto the wire before fastening to the solenoid) - but a heat gun helped soften them up enough to re-form snugly around the nuts.Fiberglass heat shielding (also from Amazon) was used to further protect the heavy-gauge positive (and negative) wires, then wrapped in friction tape at the ends to secure.Anyone who runs an electric winch on front of their vehicle should have something like this installed for safety, and peace of mind. Some guys piece together different bits to save money. I bought this kit - even though I didn't use the switch - because I knew everything was rated to properly work together, eliminating any variables. WARN is a solid company who's been around a long time and really knows their stuff. I can highly recommend this WARN Power Interrupt Kit.
