I did lots of internet research and found all kinds of hokey solutions (i.e. toilet paper roll, black plastic sun shades, etc...) but none of those seemed reliable enough to protect me from the dreaded call from the teenagers so I looked into the problem further and it appears that long-term exposure to sunlight can cause the older generation of photoelectric safety sensors to deteriorate. I decided to replace the old sensors with these hoping it would solve the problem. Good news! They did!
I do have a couple of tips that might help with the install if you choose to replace your old sensors with these. First, I used a black permanent marker to mark the top location of the brackets for the old sensors. I then removed the old brackets and installed the new brackets with the new sensors as a complete assembly with the top of the new bracket at the marked line. That is much easier than installing the new bracket and then installing the new sensor (you do need to use the new bracket as the sensors are shaped differently).
Next, I pre-wound some of the excess wire around a pen to create a little buffer in case I needed to move the new sensor up or down. It is only possible to do this easily if you do it before the wires from the sensor are connected to the wires from the garage door motor. I now had a buffer that would allow vertical movement if my marks were off.
Finally, I cut the old sensor out one wire at a time so that I did not have to unplug the garage door motor itself. If you cut one wire at a time, you cannot create a short which might damage the garage door motor and unplugging the motor itself is an unnecessary extra step. The connectors that are included with the new sensors were perfect and easily secured with a simple pliers so all good!
Once the install and electrical connections were complete, it was easy to verify the sensors were properly aligned. One sensor has an amber light and the other has a green light. It does not appear to matter how you install them. Both lights are constantly on when things are properly aligned and they flash if there is a problem so easy to verify the install. Mine turned out to be correct so I went on to test the up/down performance at the same time of day when we usually have trouble. Everything worked perfectly and I no longer have problems with the sunlight causing the garage doors to reverse!
These turned out to be a simple solution to a frustrating problem. I highly recommend the kit if you are having similar problems with your garage doors auto reversing due to sunlight!
Really liked the short wires it came with because I wanted to mount them up by the opener and not by the floor next to the door.
I did run into some issues, but not the fault of these sensors. While connecting the sensors I noticed that the lights would not come on. But then they would. I was not aware of this from the videos I saw, but after 5 the overhead light to my garage door opener would shut off but I had thought there was still power going to the sensors, but there wasn't. When I finally figured out the the problem I kept the garage door opener with me and would just use the button to turn the overhead garage door opener light back on which in turn activated the sensors and their lights. Would have had this hooked up much quicker if I had known that to begin with. So just in case someone else is having the same issue I thought I would bring this up.
But the sensors work great! Though WOW the Green & Amber LEDs are much brighter then the ones that came with the opener. Definitely can see if this is anything now blocking the garage door.
Product review:
Positives: It installed in about fifteen minutes. It worked perfectly. I questioned whether or not to use my existing bracket and modify it, but the bracket that came with it attaches to the rail effortlessly and so I decided to give it a try. I left the old bracket on and installed this one right under it.
Negatives: The wing nut attachment is far less firm than my last sensor and I suspect it will vibrate loose, but I am waiting to see before I do something more. The wire splicers it came with didn’t work so I just twisted the wires together and used electrical tape. I may get better connectors.
Tips:
I tested the sensors first by touching the wires to the actual garage door mechanism to make sure they worked and that I had both the sensor and wire order lined up correctly before I did anything. On the yellow sensor the wire colors matched, but on the green sensor it was the reverse. This is important: the green sensor will not remain lit until it is aligned with the yellow sensor! I have seen many reviews complaining that one sensor doesn’t light up and this is likely an installation error (if they got passed the wire colors). When I tested the connection the green sensor blinked once and that’s how I knew it was right. Only after I got them lined up and secured did it stay on.
Essential tools you need: Wire stripper, wire cutters, pliers, and possibly electrical tape.

Okay, 3 or 4-stars should be average, which these are. But, because of the low price, I'm bumping them up to five.
Hot tip: if your garage door sensors are going bad, but not burnt out, you can't just remove them and go without. The garage door opener insists on these being connected or it won't work. Until the replacements arrived, I taped the two old ones touching and facing each other on a strip of wood, then placing them atop the opener, I wired them in. So, the door worked fine. For safety sake, I backed off on the sensor that controls the down force to the point where even a soft item would reverse the garage door on impact.
