Product Description
Manufactured by Skell Inc., the BUG-A-SALT 2.0 is a unique, patented insect eradication device, which shoots a shotgun spray of regular table salt and decimates flies on contact. Originally invented & patented by Lorenzo Maggiore in 2009, there’s nothing on the market like it! BUG-A-SALT, the original salt gun, is the surefire fun way to enjoy a disgusting task. Rid your house of all those pesky pests and have a blast while doing it. The 2.0 model is excellent for flies on windows or screens, and will not damage screens or furniture. This model is recommended for soft-bodied insects like common houseflies, mosquitos, pestilent/poisonous spiders, small to medium-sized roaches, and moths. For use by responsible people only. Do not shoot at pets or humans. No house pets, butterflies, praying mantises, or the like are to be targeted with this device. Operating the BUG-A-SALT is very simple. Table salt is loaded into the hopper. You cock the gun by sliding the handle towards you. This will engage the pop-up sight (indicating it’s ready to fire). Slide the handle all the way forward, release the safety - and you are ready to aim, pull the trigger, & fire. Ordinary granulated table salt works best, sea salt tends to be too moist, and kosher salt is often too large to fit inside the barrel. Practice aiming by drawing a bullseye on a sheet of aluminum foil, place the target three feet away from the tip of the BUG-A-SALT, and aim for the center. Purchase includes 90-day warranty and limited 1-year warranty from inventor/manufacturer.

Here in the deep south, summertime and hordes of bugs are the norm. Our heavily wooded neighborhood is an amusement park for all sorts of pest. Flies and mosquitoes are by far the most annoying of the little demons. Heavy fogging keeps the mosquitoes down but the flies seem to not care much and come back before the mosquitoes and just love to chill out around our back door. Every time the dogs go out, they come in. They usually head to the kitchen where we swat and smash them on counters (yuck). Spraying leaves the house smelling like chemicals and just not good to be inhaling toxins all the time. Enter the Bug-A-Salt (BAS)
The BAS is quite neat. It's a salt-shooting shotgun. It's very well made (very similar to robust toddler toys). I took mine apart to remove the safety (more on that below) and the construction is first rate. Just add table salt to the small reservoir (lasts a long time), pull the pump / forestock to charge it. Out of the box, you must perform an extra step of flipping a safety lever before you can fire. I suppose if you have young kids, this is a great idea but it's annoying and I looked on YouTube and saw how to remove it so I can just pump and shoot. There are sights on it but you're better off just pointing roughly and pulling the trigger. The salt is ejected in a cone shape that will hit even if your aim is a little off. It is most effect inside of 2 feet. Once you get out to 4 ft, the salt is too spread out to assure a hit and has lost much of it punching power. I rarely have issues hitting them first try following that guide. It almost never kills the fly and only once did it dismember a fly but it almost always hurts them too bad to fly or move quick and you can just dispose of them. It shoots very little salt per shot so you can usually not worry about any special clean up. It will work on some other "soft" bugs but is largely ineffective against larger and/or hardened bugs (bees, beetles etc..). I've hit a yellowjacket but the shot only stunned it temporarily; it was able to immediately fly off after hitting the ground.
One of the coolest and easiest ways to do a undesirable task. In case you are wondering..yes it stings quite a bit to get shot at close range.

You can load different types of salt I believe you can buy salt directly from them but table salt works you could also use underground table salt if you want a slightly bigger punch and less spread alternatively I found that dishwasher salt works very well I know it's probably not recommended to do that last one but it does work quite well and packs a punch naturally you don't want to shoot somebody with this but if you do get shot in the arm it won't hurt that much it will just stink keep it away from children though because it can hurt you if you get it in your eyes
The product is excellent. Much better than a fly swatter. Around here we are plagued with 2 types of insect these days. Some little bugs which are almost like specs - some people call them fruit flies, others use the term - no see ums. In addition I get a lot of moths coming to my window at night as well.
This thing hits a lot of bugs that move too quickly to hit otherwise. And it is excellent for getting rid of any type. When I've tried to whack the little ones which seem to like the washroom (I suspect they live in the sewers and come up through the sink and tub) (would explain why we get them not only in summer but in the dead of winter when it's -40 outside and there is 4 feet of snow on the ground) using something like a roll of toilet paper (they tend to love landing on the mirror) they often move at the last second. The Salt-A-Bug gets them before they can react or feel the breeze of an object coming towards them or see the object.
There is a little salt residue on the mirror, but it wipes off easily. I once shot a moth which was way too high up on the roof to reach otherwise with the Salt-A-Bug. Hit a good number of them through the screen in my bedroom at night.
Works great. Some tips though. First you have to use the slider part on the front to load the salt, then you have to turn off the safety before you can shoot a bug with it. Also, the slider part has to be at the front of the shooter in order for it to work. If you aim upwards or something and the slider slips towards your trigger finger, it won't shoot. So you have to make sure you hold the loader part to the front as you aim. I suggest using the sight on the shooter for aiming as well. Really helps you get them on the first shot.
No issues with the salt. No messes. The little bugs and moths seem to disintegrate. Nothing to clean up with the little ones. Moth I shot indoors fell to the floor and was so shattered it disintegrated when I picked it up to put it in the trash. The outdoors ones at the screen window just fell to the ground outside. No impact on the screen from shooting through it. No damage. No damage to mirrors, walls or anything else.
I highly recommend this product. Get one and you'll never use a fly swatter or rolled up newspaper or magazine ever again.
