So a fellow toyota enthusiast and I were talking about Toyota's at lunch today in the break room, big shock, and we got to talking about land cruisers. I don't know if anyone has looked at the price of a 2016/17 cruiser, but they are upwards of $80k! He is a taco guy and I have my tundra so our obvious next question was, "I wonder if anybody has gone ape shit with off road accessories on one yet?" Back in my BMW days a company called Fluid Motor Union took a BMW X5 and did some pretty mean stuff to it, which makes me think that some awesome person has to have done the same thing with a cruiser. If you aren't familiar, the Land Cruisers are equipped with all the off road creature comforts, including crawl control. So, does anyone have any cool pictures of land cruisers that are outfitted to play in the dirt?

    P.S.

The Toytec boys have some pretty well equipped FJs.

Just not sure why 90k sounds like an option for a Toyota. You can get all the smae shit in a 4Runner for less than half the price; minus the 5.7 obviously. The land cruiser is too big to really seriously off road. Just not sure I'd rather have that over other options at 90k... You can get a 700hp Hellcat for 20k less...

The FJ Cruiser is not much bigger than a Wrangler, and I am doing some serious off roading with my Tundra on Sunday. Want to go for a ride?

Watch the video and listen. This is why LC is famous and still is today.. and is used by governments for a tough armer vehicle if outfitted.. .. land cruiser is not a even in the same field as 4runner apples to oranges..

Well I just learned about another BJ I'd like to get. Pretty sweet rig. What is the history/story behind that one?

Every year we would take an old factory Toyota FJ40 hunting. That damn thing would go almost anywhere. Very impressed with its off-road capabilities even at my standards today.

They had some FJs at Stevensons West a couple yrs ago over $70K on the lot. OP started thread about prices of late gen Land Cruisers: FJ Land Cruisers. Even earlier large Cruisers could do some decent wheeling. There was one generation that kind of sucked, forgot which one.

LC got it roots from the ww2... When Jeep couldnt keep up with the demand from the usa, shipping overseas, the us government contracted out to toyota.. toyota built jeeps for the us government during the war also closer to the lines mind you. after the war was over with toyota found out how good the off road truck was then started to build there own the LC was born.. alot of r@d went into the first one making it better and stronger, since they had the blue prints to the Jeep they could reengineer it and make it better stronger.

Toyotas still main proving ground is Africa and land down under, that's where Toyotas famous 22r showed the world that Toyota was here to stay.. funny thing 22r is still used today. There are more million mile 22r's then any other engine I'm aware of as I write this.. side note these two proving grounds is what LC is today.. ask any mate he will tell ya.

Jeep roots stayed in early till the fj60 series.. after that it was all redesign and full toyota blue prints at that point on and no Jeep engineering was left..

@ColoradoTJ that's why the LC is built like a brick shit house it has Jeep roots..

Edit this is my understanding of how it all started..

Pretty much everything that Japan produced after WWII was good vehicle USA style manufacturing wise do to our post occupation training. Electronics had a slower start, but we all know that caught up. (By the way Nikon , is pronounced Nee-kon in Japanese.) English.... AEIOU: Japan: A=ah, E=eh(a), I=ee, O=O, U =ooh.
Pet peeve= Suki Yaki is actually Skee-yaki. U is silent. Always. And never ,never leave your O-hashi (chop sticks) when you are finished, sticking down in the bowl. Ever. NOOB mistake. Place them across the top side (either) but not in the bowl. If any of you may ever go to Japan, you have a heads up. Just sayin.

I have seen a 80 yr old man wheel the shit out of a new G-wagon once. He came up from Texas and was supposed to meet up with a group of Mercedes guys, but couldn't find them. He asked to off-road with us for the day and it was pure pleasure. We were out in Moab for the week.

Me too! I got a 78 South American Left hand drive. I don't get mine that dirty though. :)

This tuck is all original except for only a few new OEM parts. I got rid of the original bead lock wheels for a set (5) new OEM FJ wheels. (The spare original wheel was missing and I could not find another one to save my life.) The driver mirror is new, and so is the head liner. A couple of the badges are new OEM but other than that its all original parts. I just stopped the little bit of rust that it had embalmed it! The glass is all original and still has her Uruguay Military ID Number etched into the glass. They had it painted a burgundy color and I went back with the OEM Toyota FJ tan. Has the add on factory hydraulic winch which also got a new solenoid to get her working. I added the snorkel kit but don't plan on checking it for water leaks.

Man that thing is SWEET! I wish that my old BJ could talk. God only knows what all that thing saw and did back in South America on those one lane dirt roads down there! She's retired. Pulls an airplane around every now and then and we make donut and lunch runs around town. Taken on a few trailer trips to a couple of shows. Way too much blood, sweat, tears, and elbow grease invested to bash her now.

Expedition Overland is currently building a 200 series for their journey across South America. Their YouTube channel is pretty cool to watch. Skip to about the 4:00 mark to see the Cruiser.

Man these rigs are hard core to the bone. Mine is simply a preservation, nothing high tech or terribly expensive about it. Its like when you die and they embalm you just to make you look good for a few days longer LOL except my BJ will still get up and make it around town and then back home again.

I have not found the instructions on uploading videos yet if anyone has a link or that info.
