I have my first tundra I have under 1500 miles and the first time check engine light came on I took it in to dealership. They checked it and they found a small leak. They put a new gas cap on. they told me that the first on was free and the next on would be $90. I asked how I could have messed up cap their answer was I put the cap on wrong. I not stupid. Everything rock on for a month or so. I don't put many miles on a truck, but the engine light came on at about a half tank full. I have not touch the cap until I filled up again. It took a couple of weeks for it to go off before so I will see if it happens again. Has anyone else had the happen?

Probably not the gas cap. Same thing happened with my 2016. They said it was the gas cap but it threw the code a day or so later. With mine, the charcoal canister was leaking which tripped the CEL. They had to order a new one and replaced it a week later. Either way, don't stress. It's just a emissions thing that has zero effect on how your truck runs. Get it to the dealer, have them check it out and fix it.

Oh, and welcome to the forum.

Also, did you top of the tank when you filled it up? If you continue to fill up the tank after the first click, you can ruin that charcoal canister because it floods it.

Buy a code reader so you can see what the problem is.

What do you mean "first click"?

    Tightening the gas cap
    Or
The click the gas pump handle makes when it you fill up.
    Or
    Something totally different.

Because I'm defently the fill it right up as much as it will take when I'm on a road trip. Daily it's go to the exact dollar while filling up.
