Sold my stock Entune and bought a Kenwood Excelon. Dual Rockford Punch amps for the Kickers going in the doors and 10" Sub under the rest seat. Lots of harnesses and steering wheel control adapters coming from Crutchfield. Also building my own sub enclosure for the first time. I'm going to take pics along the way and add it to a build thread. Looking forward to the challenge and hoping I can get it all put back together!

This isn't everything, need to unbox and inventory and see what's missing. I have a Lowes 10 minutes away I think they're going to see a lot of me this weekend. Head unit and harnesses/steering wheel controls adapters from Crutchfield. I will be blowing up their 7-day per week technical support.

My wife thought I was crazy when I had everything including the dash pulled out of my truck at 5k miles. What model excelon did you get? I bought one without nav since I always use my phone, but it's been an excellent stereo

Me too. I don't need navigation. I'm a little worried because this is the first audio build I've ever done and there are so many connectors and adapters etc..

Don't be! It's just like doing a puzzle. Just take your time, splice everything very solid and make it clean. I drove around for a week with only the drivers seat because I didn't get finished in one weekend. But I was using raam mat to sound deaden everything. If you take your time and ground everything well, you won't have to go back and change things. My biggest problem was the little panel pieces got smashed when I was reinstalling the panels. But they are cheap and easy to get from the dealer or auto part store.

Thanks Trucky I bookmarked that site.

I'm having trouble right now crimping the 4GA wire to the lug for the positive battery terminal. I'm thinking I might have to solder that one.

The other two "tricky" pieces are the wires running from the old factory head unit to the amp I removed from under the passenger front seat. Do I need any of those if I'm running to two new amps?

The other puzzler is getting new speaker wires to the doors and where/how to mount the crossovers in the doors.

Did you buy a wiring kit with adapters for the new radio to old wiring? I actually rewired the entire truck with 16 guage wiring for the speakers, 0 guage from the battery to the splitter block and 4 guage from the splitter to my two amps. So I didn't use any of the tiny wiring from the factory. You could always run new wiring for your amps. It might take the headache out off figuring out the factory wiring.

Yeah I bought 4ga from battery to amps. And speaker wire and adapters. So I guess besides getting power to the new head unit I'll be replacing everything else

If you can, and are happy with the stock wiring in the doors, it's easiest to keep the door wiring. I replaced mine, but it was very difficult running new wiring thru the wiring openings leading into the door. In the back doors, maybe the front too, I just can't remember because it's been a couple years, there is a plastic block that I had to drill an existing hole a little wider to fit my new wiring thru. In the front, I had to use a hanger with wire taped on the end to fish thru the rubber canal for all the wiring. Took a little time for both, but came out nice.

Here is a thread on the subject. Not mine, but it's useful if you run new wire.
    http://www.tundratalk.net/forums/tu...g-speaker-wire-crewmax-rear-doors.html#/enter

Just be careful with all the clips, they break easily.

Yeah I broke one of the front mounting points of the center console outer shell. I think it will all go back together ok.

Thank you for mentioning that plastic block on the back doors I wasn't ready for that. So I guess I could keep the section of speaker wire from the door speakers to the door jambs and intercept them from that point and splice new sections to the 4-channel amp?

image.jpg Here's the footprint for the under seat sub, Kicker VR 10". Box will finish at about 1 cubic foot of volume.
The caster is what I used to smooth out the sound deadening material, worked great!

image.jpg Halfway through the sub box build I figured out that I didn't account for the 3/4" thickness of the MDF. So, back to Lowes for more lumber and increased the footprint to 28"x22" with a notch for the seat belt mechanism in the rear. Notched the bottom of the front face to accommodate the transmission tunnel. These new dimensions should give me about 1 cu foot of volume.

image.jpg *********.com had a great video for 2014-2016 front door panel removal. The window switch connector would have been tricky without their video.

Pink/grey, purple/grey front left channel speaker wires. The second photo is where I'm going to intercept those wires and bring them to the Rockford Punch 500 amp under the passenger seat.
