Weather on the east coast was super crappy yesterday so I landed last night about 2.5 hrs late. Shuttle dropped me off at the parking garage, I walk up to the truck and it's clicking. An audible click coming from under the hood. Key fob not working. Dead battery. Unlock the door, look inside and the SwitchPros is blinking in time with the click from under the hood. Stick the key in the ignition just to double check and it's dead dead.

Truck is backed into the space and up against the fence so I can't get in the back to get my battery jump. Had the brilliant jet lagged idea of putting the truck in neutral and squeezing myself between it and the fence to push it forward. That lasted about 3.74 seconds and I wandered off to find someone to give me a jump.

Super nice guy came and helped. Truck started right away and all the light bars fired up at the same time. Everything turned off except for the 20" amber on the bumper. One of the shuttle drivers stopped and said, 'you know, your truck has been flashing all week. thought it was kinda weird.' Yea, thanks. I'm sure it was weird.

So the switch for the amber bar wasn't working and the orange indicator light was not on. All other connected switches worked just fine. Pushing the switch for the amber bar caused the orange light to blink 4 times then stop. Poked around under the hood but couldn't see anything out of the ordinary. I was beyond tired and decided to just head home.

People on the freeway at 11:30 at night are not a happy bunch. They were not amused with the nuclear yellow barreling down behind them.

Off the freeway and almost home, I pull over and shut the truck off to see if I can reset things. Truck is off but the amber bar is still on. I give it a couple of minutes thinking the SwitchPros just needs to drain its charge for the bar to go off. Nope. Stays on. Turn the truck back on and the button is doing the same thing.

I pull in the driveway and it still doesn't shut off so I crawl under the truck and unplug the connector for the bar. Light is off. Time to go to sleep.

I was just outside taking another look at it. Truck is recharged and started just fine. Shut it off, plugged the light bar back in, turned it back on and the bar stays off. Pushed the button and it does the same thing. 4 orange blinks then nothing. All other switches are normal and lights operate as they should. I tried the app on my phone thinking it might override but no, the button in the app blinks for times too. The app also operates all other switches normally.

I unplugged the main connector on the SwitchPros 'brain' to try and reset it. Didn't change anything. Switch doesn't work and the bar does not come on.

Something went haywire somewhere but I know not where. Any ideas?

Short inside the switchpro? Might be something you'll have to contact them about. They might replace it.

@Larmand had an issue with his Switch Pros, IIRC it was switch #7 that wasn't working correctly.
Turned out to be a bad connection somewhere in the sealed switching block and they warrantied it out for free.

How long has your Switch Pros been installed?

Could also be a trigger wire depending on how you wired it up obviously. Guessing you're running the 9100.

I had a weird situation with my Switch-Pros recently. Just the outside cells of my grille light bars were on but really dim. Everything else connected to Switch-Pros worked fine. I went through all the same checks you did to no avail. I started checking the connections and found the main ground wire loose inside the connector. Replaced the connector and haven’t had any more issues.
It might not be your issue but a loose ground can make some weird electrical shit happen.

Yes, i did recently have an issue with my #7 switch. I called them they walked me through a few troubleshoooting steps. Proceeded to tell me that they never had this issue before. Asked me for a serial number and sent me a new one.

I have an 8100 in our Jeep. It's a super early production unit and overall has been fine but can be finicky. I think Bluetooth died on it as well. Curious to hear what they say.

You should be covered under the 2-year warranty. Hopefully, Switch Pros will take care of you and send you a new unit.

So. Still trying to resolve this. Spent some time on the phone with Laura at SwitchPros. Super smart, super awesome and knew exactly what was causing what I described.

Jumping a dead battery, overloads the circuit so more than 18a was going to the switch. When the BD bar came on, the SP shut off that circuit. She mentioned some other things but the only thing I caught was 12.5v needed from the battery.

Also, when I originally installed the unit, I used one of the factory chasis grounds in the engine bay. Laura said bad idea. The SP needs to be grounded directly to the neg terminal on the battery.

So, I disconnected the battery and moved the SP ground wire with the hope that would fix things. No go. Left a message for Laura and will try her again on Monday. Then i got a wild hair and decided to put a volt meter on the battery. It measured out at 12.35. The battery was dead for a week while sitting at the airport so maybe that has something to do with it.

So, smart people, do I go pick up a new battery tomorrow and try again?

    the saga continues.

spent almost 30min on the phone with laura and her husband. they walked me through putting a volt meter on a few points and everything measured out correctly. unit appears to be fine. could be possible ground issue with the 20" s8 on switch 3 since every other switch works without issue.

i'm going to pull a few things apart and move the bar's ground from the chassis ground to the neg terminal on the battery. if that has no change, then i'm going to flip the switches for the 20" and 40" bars to at least see if the 20" bar comes on.

@Baja Designs is there a way for me to self test the light bar? any other things i should investigate?

i can't say enough about the support i'm getting from switchpros. above and beyond. awesome people.

On your battery, was that totally charged and disconnected?

    If so, yes, new battery.

Oh, and off topic, but Sean086 and I are installing a complete new lift, rear leaf pack, etc in the middle of Jan sometime.

    Wanna get those bypasses on?

We can make it Sean(s) day.

One way to test the lightbar is to run it directly to the battery to confirm everything works 100%. Moving the ground to the battery instead of the chassis is a good move. Let us know if you're still experiencing issues. It's possible the bar is grounding through the housing and needs to be isolated from the bumper.

thanks. i’ll have to check the measurements. the battery tray i have from @SoCalDave was built for odyssey’s.

hell yeah. i’ve been trading PMs with @Sean086.

i have a bottle of stranahan’s and one from feisty spirits distillery ready to go for you. we are in moscow from 1/13-1/21. depending on day job schedule, i should be able to make anything outside of that work. the week of new year’s will definitely be slow and quiet.

rad. thanks for the input. i’ll hook it direct to the battery tomorrow and see what happens. isolating the bar might be a good idea. just a rubber grommet on the mounting tab?

moved ground for 20” bar to the neg terminal on battery. also moved ground for 40”. direct connect to the battery causes 20” bar to come on. reconnected bar to switchpros, switch still no worky. the app tells me i have 14.39v.

the bumper switch is the one that isn’t working. behavior is the same in the app or using the panel. 4 orange blinks then nothing.
