Tire suggestions

I am going to be replacing the factory tires soon and thought I would ask Tundra Google here on your thoughts. I have the Crew Cab 4x4 and the tires at 275/55/20 I believe. The factory tires are crappy Dunlop touring tires.

I am wanting to get some tires that are mud/snow rated but on the bottom end of that spectrum. I don't go four wheeling for the most part and would like to still have a more or less smooth ride on paved roads and the highway. I don't need a tread pattern that is more suitable to sand dunes or bogs. I was also considering going to 285's as well. The truck is no lifted and is stock height. Any ideas or suggestions would be great.

I was looking at the Michelin Defenders.

 

I am in NW Oregon so mostly rain, occasionally light snow that doesn't stick around much being I am in the valley. Is the ride on them smooth or bouncy? Also how long do yours last. I know the factory tires are nearly done and I only hit 26k miles on them and they have been mostly highway miles, with rotation every 5k miles so in short, well maintained. I'm used to tires lasting longer on previous trucks.

 

I've got a 4x4 but with the 18's. I tried a set of Michelin Defenders LTX M/S's and had nothing but problems. I could never get them balanced after 5 spin balances, 2 road force, and two near rear tires. Shook like crazy on the highway. My only thought was that Discount Tire must have received a bad batch of them. I couldn't take it any more so they swapped me out to Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza Plus's for free. Now the truck rides smooth as butter.

I think I am the only guy I've heard of that has had issue with the Defenders.

 

I'm going to throw in my vote for the Cooper Discover ATP's. Semi aggressive design and ride is near the best I have had. Cooper recently revamped their popular AT3 line up as well. It's hard to beat the Michelin Defenders as well. My truck came stock with the Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza Plus's, and they rode good as well. I have about 15,000 miles on the ATp's and they are wearing great with 5000 mile rotations.

 

I love my defenders and probably wont ever need or get another tire. I have heard of then lasting 70k moles plus easily.
They rode smooth. Are great on rain and on dry pavement. Here in CT we get snow, lots of snow and they were great last winter.
I have had about 8 different tire brands on trucks and these are far and away the best I've had as an all around tire.

 

Very happy with my Defenders...just had DCT rotate and balance all 4 this morning.

 

Do you know if your tire size will fit without a raised suspension? I can't tell if your truck is lifted or not.
