My old canister vac is feeling its age after 30 years. Do you have any suggestions for a replacement? I want something that I can use to vacuum my truck and other vehicles. Thanks.

Eventually I plan on upgrading to the one that @Patriot reviewed, the Rigid 4050 and the 10' hose extension.

The big a$$ Rigid. Bought it originally to clean up a flooded basement. It’s a beast. Some dust and dried boogers in my Tundra are no match for it.

I have two, the one I use almost exclusively is a 4.5 gallon Ridgid that, when we purchased it, had a wall mount. It works great and is out of the way when not using it (we have a small garage and both the Tundra and our MDX are squeezed in). It came with a really long hose.

I also have a second Ridgid (16 or 20 gallon) that was given to me a long time ago. It's really old and still runs like a freight train. Although it has a lot more suction, it has to live in the attic since I don't have space in garage for it. I'm not digging it out every time I want to clean the vehicles and I would have to purchase a long hose for it (the one that fits it is really short). I'm sure it would do a faster job, that being said.

I'd have to move the truck to get to it but here is a photo of it on the wall. I think it's the WD4050 which seems to match up to the WD4051 they carry now. Unfortunately, they don't offer the wall mount anymore for it.

That being said, they do have a wall mountable wet/dry vac. It's model number: WD5500A Stor-N-Go 5 gal. 5.0-Peak HP Wet Dry Vac with Bonus LED Lighted Car Nozzle

I don't know what you define as a loud vacuum but neither of the wet/dry vac's that I own are quiet. At least not in the sense I'd want to stand next to them for any length of time. Ours is also mounted at just about head level for me so that probably doesn't help much. I'm not sure how loud that new wall mountable unit is, that being said.

For the price, I don't think you can beat the Ridgid for capability and durability. Even if you have to wear earplugs when using it (It doesn't bother me so I don't). I do need to upgrade the hose but I'm cheap and waiting for the original one to break first.

    --Matt

P.S.--I do buy the vacuum bags for ours. Just makes things easier but it does cost more.

I'm not looking for anything super quite. My big 40g air compressor and the 10g Rigid vacuum have about the same noise level 85-90dba and I'm OK with that. I don't get a headache when I run them for extended period of time...... I also use bags on my Rigid. Worth the extra money.

Reading through all 17 post, I can't believe @driverdog hasn't chimed in. I will suggest the Metro Vac-N-Blo Pro. This will be my next purchase. I was fortunate enough to use driverdogs. Great vac with everything you need. Also with option to hang in garage. Here's a link, you can find them . https://www.metrovacworld.com/catalog/Auto. You can also find them cheaper elsewhere. Chemical Guy's have them.

Looking for a vacuum to hang on the wall in the garage, something to use when detailing the cars that has a flexible / long hose and is made to be hung o the wall? I haven't seen any great reviews on Griots option and curious if anyone has a recommendation based on what they own?

My Milwaukee 18V cordless is one of the best purchases I have made. It is not as powerful as my Ridgid but it is so much more convenient to use.

Here's mine. I opted to buy the longer orange flexible hose w/the auto attachments and I use it all the time. It's a bit on the loud side but I wear some ear protection. Man this Rigid 4050 sucks anything and everything.

    Too many, but not enough....
Can't go wrong w the ridgid. I also have a tiny, ancient shop vacuum that's sits on my workbench for small messes and uses shop towels and rubber bands as the filter. Not much on it that I haven't repaired or modified but it's really handy.
