quick question. Do I need to bring in the truck at exactly 25k for the 25k service? My truck’s a year and a half so I’d like to get that last free service.

I’m currently out on a month long road trip. All the stupid dealerships here are booked for weeks out. They make it seem like walk ins will take forever or even be turned away.

    I’m currently at 24800. I’m 1200 miles from home.

My home dealership said get the service done out here at or under 25k. Dealerships here say 25,999 is the maximum.

Does anyone know the official policy?

Its a sham unless you have a FFV. If you go in, they will say its every 10k miles for oil changes. Your next one would be at 30k, which you will have to pay for. All they can do is rotate tires unless you would like to pay for oil.

Not a dealer local to you? I went on vacation to California and would have rolled over an oil change if I didn’t service it in California. I hit up a fb group there (wasn’t on here at the time) and got some good feed back. Got it hooked up no problem. It’s a thought.

I pushed my Toyota care package out to 75k miles. I’d see if you can still purchase that plan from the dealer.

You have a 1,000 mile give me. Either over or under, that’s how my dealership is and would assume it’s the same for every Toyota dealership.

If u have a FFV like me, the dealerships will (because they don’t know/care/lazy/etc) say oil change every 10k. WHICH IS WRONG!!!

As far as my dealership goes, I show them this link

    http://toyota.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/7604/~/what-are-the-oil-change-intervals-using-synthetic-oil?

and they do the oil at 5k intervals.

I literally have it printed up and present it to them when I show up.

I’m at 24k and expired 5 months ago. Toyota told me nope. Sooo I bought my own OE air filter and cabin filter, will go to an independent for my 30k and remind them to lube the drive shaft, and have American rotate my tires.
    Done.
Toyota has engineering and sales down well, but service is typical of the big three (missing screws in skid plate, long wait times, etc.
Go off your manual and save some dough and frustration. Just my .02

You can buy an extension if under 30k. I have FFV and asked dealer about 5k changes. Service writer said FFV are 5k per book and that is what they do. When mine expires I will just do my own and use extended life oil. No real reason to do FFVs at 5. Block is same as others. Only differences are fuel lines and such.

Maybe Rockwall Toyota can educate "Modesto Toyota“ of Modesto, CA. I made multiple attempts and was shot down. Finally they said they'd have a CSA manager call me. Guess what. Nope. Hell... I'd buy it from Rockwall if I wasn't worried Modesto would question it. How goofy is that?

AVS vent covers on all four doors, Red Tundra letters on front bumper & TRD highlighted in Red on front grille. Tailgate Tundra Letters in Black.
Just had my 4th oil change at 21,000 miles. They have actually changed my oil every 5,000 miles.

I’m not complaining. Just one more free one left.

Modesto Toyota called back fast after I made an inquiry on their website. I sourced this thread. Maybe we can get the official response. Curious where this will go. Will keep you up to speed.

Hmm. Perhaps it has something to do with volume and regional incentives.

I was treated well on my oil change, and the 30k was virtually free, but the dealer differences are staggering for Toyota. Just doesn’t seem orderly enough.

When I get an oil change I usually drop my car off for most of the day - I'll drop it off in the morning and pick it up after work... The few times I've sat and waited for an oil change it's taken 1-2 hours.. with an appointment... seems ridiculous since they have all the best tools and I have the appointment scheduled...

In any event, I dont feel like burning that kind of time, so it's easier just to drop it off for the day... It'd just sit parked anyway.

I'd think they'd offer a discount on the labor for regular maintenance for people like me. If I'm going to drop it off from like 8a-6p (with a random appointment in that window) so you can work on it whenever you've got some "down time" (out side of busy holiday weekends), those guys would just be sitting idle otherwise, right? (Dealership paying for their time even though they've got vehicles to work on) I've never worked in a shop, so I'm probably way off base.

As far as the dealership offering a few free oil changes, that's good customer service right there! A good start to building customer loyalty! especially if you have mechanics that'd be sitting idle anyway.

I have another thread about my oil change this week, well Saturday specifically. It was just under two hours in the express lane.
The argument generally is the skid plate and free inspection. What an opportunity for sales guys to hook me for a test drive.
I have time to burn being retired. I wait. It works.

I haven't waited for the tundra, and toyota is usually under an hour for standard oilchange/tirerotation maintenance. I was speaking more generally about automobile dealers.

I added leather to mine when I purchased it, but they were scheduled a week out, so I drove it for a week then brought it back. They had it for 3 days and rented me a corolla... I didnt have to pay for it, which was nice, but at the same time... You're not going to take this opportunity to show me what I missed out on by not getting a Platinum/Limited? :D Or give me a few days with a Taco? I'm not a big dude but I BOUGHT A TRUCK! and you rent me a compact car... nice. o_O

I always laughed about small cars that were offered. I'm not Arnold, but at 6'2" 225, I drive larger vehicles for a reason. Guys shouldn't be in the birthing position or feel like they are riding the Matterhorn at Disneyland while driving. It's not fun for anyone.

At Doxon Toyota, Auburn Wa. They said Toyota will not do 5K oil Changes an their program. I had them move the 1yr/10K oil change to now. I’ve used the Tundra to tow about 20% of the time, only 3000 lbs but over several mountain passes and some dirt roads.

I can see that. Your description doesn't describe severe use. If you have a standard (non flex fuel) engine, the 10k/1 year protocol is followed. More often than not you'll expire in miles before time.

I’m quite conservative wrt oil changes. Maybe it was due to being a reliability engineer for a electric motor company 45 years ago. Time of use and temperature was the major factor in bearing failures. An e tea oil change or more is well worth the assurance.

I most likely will not put more than 6K miles on the Tundra in the next year. We have a X3 28d and M 235xi vert for other driving.

So you were RE forty-five years ago or for 45 years? Either is remarkable. Am I to understand you prefer earlier oil changes due to heat and time?

Are you suspicious of main bearing failure? If so, what would lead you to such? Does your truck have the oil and transmission cooler? Washington state is reasonably cool.

I’d do the same. Wherever you are at the moment, a dealer is close by. Just get it over with. Hide the receipt and test drive a few 4runners etc. Grab a iced coffee or something and weave it into your travels.

Per my wife who, is a customer service representative (one who schedules your service) at a local dealership her in Northern California. The 2 yr/25K plan is honored up to 25,999K. But she also says as long as you atleast schedule it under 25K, the mileage at the service should not matter if you are under 1K from the mileage when you scheduled. Hope that makes since.

That's helpful. My experience was a tad different due to the date, complicated by 10k oil rotations... Your experience may vary lol
