I guess some people see a tried and true platform as a negative.

That article is a joke in my opinion this is my first tundra but I have had other trucks before my Dodge Ram was the biggest pos on the planet numerous electrical issues, headunit going bad and many more problems to the point I got sick of dealing with the issues and took a loss just to get out of the the constant dealer visits

TRD Air Filters, Front door windows tinted to match the rears. Wheel locks, Talons Garage cat shield, Tyger Automotive soft tonneau cover, WeatherTech floor mats with Tuff Skinz Custom Emblem kit, Toyota OEM Emblem Black Out kit. AVS vent covers on all four doors, Red Tundra letters on front bumper & TRD highlighted in Red on front grille. Tailgate Tundra Letters in Black.
Car and Driver has always had bad things to say about Toyota Tundras.

I stopped reading there magazine years ago.

If I buy an automobile magazine it’s Consumer Reports. I like the mags that report the facts and show reliability with the solid red dots.

Unlike the Ford, Dodge and Chevy black dots or even better the incomplete data reports on those 3 since there to embarrassed to report how unreliable there trucks are.

To touch up on your warranty comment I have a good one when my wife and I were dating she bought a brand new 2015 mustang gt she calls me on the way to her house and says the ac seemed like it wasn’t blowing cold the dumbasses at the dealership never charged the ac before letting her drive off the lot and when it was brought to their attention they made her pay for a loaner and wait 2 days to fix it needless to say she got rid of the mustang for a Lexus

Tried and true platform and reliability are things they don't take into account for reviews. The Tundra when compared to everything else is behind, the others have changed there platforms a few times and the Tundra is still riding the same. Doesn't mean its not a great truck, like others said have to take these reviews with a grain of salt.

I read this article before I bought my truck. I drove a Z71 before the tundra.... they wanted 60k for that tech marvel. I went and drove a tundra after that, I guess i like simple things, no ball coolers, simple radio, truck like handling. On top of all that I paid 42k for my limited. All I really want in a truck is leather, 4x4 and at least a 6' bed. Seemed like a good deal.

Two problems with the tundra so far, battery crapped out at 20k and my key fob is cracked.

Toyota batteries seem to have that issue, the one in my wife's Tacoma didn't make 20k either.

I'm with you I like the simplicity and a straight up v8 and the Tundra was priced well.

All around her mustang was a great car 0 issues for the 50-60k miles she had it other than the ac incident she didn’t like the ford dealerships and how they pressured her to do maintenance and other crap that wasn’t needed so she traded it in

They're comparing stock vs. stock, new vs. new.

I think it's fair and valid for Tundra to be last by those measurements. Obviously we on this forum know better.

I bought mine for some of the reasons they listed, I drove the Denali it had to much that you also have to pay extra for and because of Toyota reliability I'm sure everyone saw the 350000 trucks Ford had to recall because there transmission didn't know what gear it was in change is not always best

Their comment about the tundra being a throwback to simpler times is one of the big reasons I replaced my f150 with a tundra instead of another ford. Simpler times means less to go srong

All my Toyota’s have had stellar reliability . 1976 Celica,1990 Previa, 2000 Sienna,2004 Sienna,2004 Sienna. In fifteen years of Toyota ownership, biggest repair bill was at stealership ,timing belt and brake caliper replacement. $750.00. I also trust only consumer reports. Highest rated car ever in their tests was a couple of years ago when the Lexus LS 460 was given a 99 rating. In all their tests and ratings,Toyota and Honda always rate highest. And from my limited ownership of both. I believe it to be true. I think Japanese cars became so popular beginning in the eighties and nineties is with women. They kept getting ripped off at the repair shops with their limited knowledge of cars and took a chance on something different [japanese ]. Found reliability and quality and never went back. I know my mother went through that scenario and never went back. She turned me on to Toyota. Peace. D

The article seems pretty accurate to me. Toyota should update the Tundra. In 2007 it was cutting edge, now it’s antiquated. Back then everyone talked about the power, the towing capacity, the size of the brakes, etc. Now the other manufacturers have caught and/or surpassed the Tundra. Reliability is still great and why I am on my second Tundra but Toyota can and should do more with this platform in my opinion.

I avoid reading anything Car & Driver or similar mags. Most of their reviews are based on changes from previous years. Been no "major change" to the Tundra since 07. Bumpers and grille don't count...

All of this stuff is paid advertising for whoever pays the most. That’s why the big three always seem to have some kind of title somewhere. Everything we read is an advertisement wether it’s the story or the ads in between. Hell even most the forum is stuff I need to buy haha. Toyota clearly doesn’t need any help in that department as they sell themselves.

Exactly my point, and car and drivers. This is still an outstanding truck by any standards. The article actually still gave the Tundra good reviews. Look at the mpg comment. The tundra is only 1 mpg behind all the others with cylinder deactivation, v6’s, 8/10 speed transmissions.
Look at their comments on handling and how the Tundra sucked up the rough roads.

Change is good in most situations, but in my opinion, not every 2-3 years. How the hell does a manufacturer control quality? They don’t is the simple answer.

Next year or 2020 will have a completely different Tundra out and the competition will be playing catch up again for years.

This list should have a disclaimer on how much each Company spends on Marketing and Advertising. Ford is easily the highest!! I'm sure Toyota is down on the bottom.

I was a loyal chevy guy (maybe because my dad was) but GM sold me a bucket of problems in 99 and basically told me to F myself. So I switched to a F150 Ecobust. Had really only one issue but Ford Motor decided to screw me over on that so now I'm a proud Tundra owner.
You would think they would just sell a good product and not jerk their costumers around but, NO.
