Clay bar

Ant tips or brands that anyone can share? I plan to clay my truck this spring, it's been a long time since I have used clay. Thanks in advance

 

I used the nano skin sponge. It’s s lot cleaner than an actual clay bar.

 

I just used the Meguiar clay kit and it brought my 11 4Runner back to life!!! I was actually excited when I was done after the wax. Baby is better than my 17 pro paint right meow.

 

This is the “new” clay bar. They even have a kit version you stick your hands in.

 

Should I be looking into these new synthetic clay blocks, mitts, towels or pads? Seems to be easier and longer lasting that real clay.

 

The nano skin is good for light duty to me. If you use it don't overdue it as I have had some marring in the past when trying use it beyond its limit. When the surface is a little more gone than light I reach for the Clay Bar which most of the time is the Meguiars one since its inexpensive and you can get it at Walmart

I just use Chemical Guys traditional clay bars. They have different ones for light or heavy correction. The fine blue one has taken everything off, and very easy to work with.

So fine grade?
Mitt or sponge? Sponge is much cheaper but mitt looks easier and faster to use.

I tried the nano skin, worked good. I do not view it as a replacement for clay, imo clay removes much more.

 

Looks like from my reading, that with the mitt you can use your car wash soap bucket as a lube. While with the towel or pad you need separate lube? Can you verify this @SouthBoundSteve ?
Should i still buy a clay lube?

 

And what do you think about the blackfire clay mitt? Is nanoskin better?

 

I got one of those Surf City pads and was surprised at how well it actually worked. I've done clay before too but I'm prone to dropping it about 5,000 times during the process so the synthetic is the way to go for me.

Also, I usually use detail spray for lube but used Dawn the last time, which worked just fine.

 

I ordered a mitt, some "guzzler" drying towels, microfiber detergent and some stoner glass cleaner / repel. 25% off and free shipping was nice. I now have everything I need to do a nice detail and do it without burning a full weekend. These newer products are amazing, between the clay mitt and spray on / off sealants I will easily save 4 hours of work and it'll look just as good as a good old hand wash, clay, wax.

 

Thanks all for the information on the clay ,ive been tryong to learn more about thos as ive never used one before but want to get into it for this truck, just alot to comb through on whats good and works VS whats not.still looking for a good starter kit to get most things done,as in wash,clay bar and wax

 

i'm slightly partial to adam's. their combo kit isn't a bad deal. they changed the clay about a year ago and i find that the new stuff works much better. they also have a mitt available but i haven't tried using it. i just like the feeling of the clay.

the weather is starting to warm up here so i'll be doing the whole enchilada to the truck in a few more weeks.

 

Surf City Garage has very decent goodies for the average guy up to pro level detailing. Free Shipping this weekend. I have Adams but also like Surf City.

 

Thanks @SouthBoundSteve I have ech2o so I'll use that as a lube after I wash. I would definitely do a normal wash before claying, I did read about some people just using the microfiber side of the mitt to wash, then dip and flip and use the clay side, I can see why that's a bad idea. And i do have a new 100g Mother's clay bar to usenfor tough areas. I also have ironX that i assume I use before the clay. I was going to them wipe down with IPA Eraser and then put on some hydro2...is there something I should put on before or after or instead of the hydro2?

 

Thanks @SouthBoundSteve thats great info for a noob like myself!do you prefer a true clay bar to the mitt or other items that are similar?whats the best to use for lube?just clay bar lube or does usimg ironx gain me anything ?lots to learn on detailing that i didn't really consider lol...more money leaving my wallet soon....

 

@SouthBoundSteve for a noob like me what do you think of the chemical guys sets they have on Amazon as a base to get some products stocked up then ill add a ckay bar or mitt and a good wax that is hand applied and removed,dont want to buy a buffer too lmao

 

That is a lot to soak in lol..thabks for your time and knowledge @SouthBoundSteve .i have nothing atm so im starting from 0n hence my looking for a kit or starter set and want to cover all my bases,i will buy quality stuff but dont want to buy stuff that fools me lol

Yeah ive learned alot on this,thinking ill go with a different starter kit than the costco one i posted only cause i want the foam cannon that hooks to my pressure washer,lots of kits from alot of makers but i think ill stick with the chemical guys stuff for now.it seems the lube people use to clay bar is a preference not a standard,some use the bar lube,ironx,soap...as someone who has no idea im trying to decide the best stuff for me lol.....just like staring at salmon lures......what one do i want....
