BedRug

Hey, does anyone have a BedRug liner installed (more specifically in a 2017 1794 CrewMax Tundra)?
If so I'm wondering if you'd recommend it or not. Seems to be one of the best choices of liner but I'm not sold on the Velcro thing...

Welcome! I've had the whole Bedrug liner in the past on a previous truck that had no liner and I have the Bedrug mat and tailgate liner on my 2016 Tundra that came with the factory spray on liner. The Velcro works fine to keep the Bedrug in place in both scenarios. It keeps things I put in the bed from sliding and it's not hard on the knees when you have to crawl around to move cargo. Also keeps cargo from getting scratched. And I can easily drag bags of sand or water softener salt across the tailgatewith ease. I like the Bedrug products a lot.

 

I have one in my 2015 1794 Crewmax. I have a spray on liner, bedrug and tailgate bed mat. I don't use the tailgate mat. The velcro wouldn't hold and it kept pulling off the bed liner. I haven't tried new velcro yet, but also don't miss it. I have a bed cover so never found a need to add the velcro strips to the bottom of the bedrug. If my bed is open, it usually has something on it to hold the bedrug down. Very good product other than my issue with the tailgate mat. It smells a bit if you get it wet, but I suspect a good detergent would get rid of that. If it gets dirty, I like to pull it out and set it on edge to hose off.

 

Love mine! No issues with the velcro. Be sure the surface is clean before you stick it.

Installed it at the same time as my BakFlip MX4. Great for road trips. I don't have to try to cram everything in the cab to keep it dry.

 

Thanks folks, I haven't been able to find a bad review so it looks like the right move. When I put my truck details into 4WheelParts.com it says the size doesn't match (2017 1794 Crewmax Tundra Shortbed). Does anyone know is there a difference in shortbed styles between 2017 trims?

 

I install these all of the time and most recently in a new Tundra dc. IMO, an excellent product. The Velcro holds very well but there are some tricks. 1, the Velcro is stiff and the adhesive back is thin and therefore is only about half effective when sticking to a spray on liner. 2, thoroughly wash and dry your bed and use rubbing alcohol to remove any wax, oil, paint sealant, etc. from the bed. 3, the kit comes with a prep packet but both 3m and ProBond make adhesion promoter so you'll want to pick some up and use it liberally everywhere the Velcro will stick to the bed. 4, put the long Velcro on the bottom of the bedrug, put the bedrug in the truck and after you have it where you want it then put the small Velcro pieces on the front and sides. I usually get it where i want it, kneel on one side and pull the other side back to remove the backing from the velcro, stick down, switch sides and repeat. Placing the small pieces, after the floor is stuck down, where they'll mate up to flat spots on the bed just makes the Velcro adhere better.

I love mine, I have had them in all my trucks and they are great. I have a tonneau cover, but if you do or a shell. I would make one suggestion. When you have it installed. Also do tail gate gasket as well. That way you have a water seal from any water coming in via the gaps around the tailgate.

 

I threw one in my 2014 DC last week. Love it so far. I had the OEM drop in before. I will probably never go with one of those again. It scratched the hell out of the bed, hurt your knees if you had to crawl around, started to buckle up in the middle, and collected leaves, twigs, bugs, etc. underneath. So far the BedRug is pretty close to a perfect fit. I bought some extra industrial strength velcro at walmart to put a full line of velcro on the sides of the bed at the tailgate end. Looks a bit better that way. I have a topper that is carpet lined so everything pretty much matches. I camp back there on road trips. Paid $350 brand new on ebay and got $50 in ebay bucks. Sold the drop in for $50.

 

Absolutely love mine. I transport a lot of material that needs TLC and this fits the purpose nicely.

 

I have it on top of my drop in. I take it out in the winter when I have to take my snowblower to do my rental or when I'm moving something dirty.

It looks really nice and clean when we travel and luggage chairs the grandkids toys etc are on it.

 

I absolutely love my Bedrug. I have a Leer shell and the Bedrug and they work great together. I haven't had any problems with the Velcro.

I'm on my 3rd Bed Rug.. Love them... beats liners hands down..IMHO

 

I have one, but even though I followed the instructions for installing over a spray-in liner, it comes loose at highway speeds and has almost blown off. I now have to keep some heavy items in the bed to keep it from flying away. So not too happy about that.

Otherwise, it's really good for my knees when I'm in the bed and for laying and sitting back there for drive-ins, camping, etc. It's also taken a beating with some serious cargo hauling on occasion and has held up to that.

 

Like mine especially the tailgate cover. Takes some pain off the knees.

It does occasionally get a bit stinky when water gets through the tonneau on hot days.

 

I hunt and it's nice having a soft surface to put the guns on, even when they're in their soft cases.

 

Put a seal gasket liner around the inside frame of your tailgate. You won't get water in there again.

 

I just transferred my Bedrug from my '13 Limited Crewmax to my '18 Linited Crewmax. I pressure washed it, and it looks pretty much like new. I haul cabinetry and furniture, so I needed th "soft touch" in the bed. I have also hauled firewood, etc. The only drawback is that pine needles are tough to get out. I had to order a new install kit (velcro for body). I've been very happy with it!

 

Doing this install later today . . . curious . . . how did you mount the extender brackets? Over the rug? Or cutout? Thanks.

 

I have a similar setup. I mounted over the rug. Poked some holes through the rug with an awl.

I mounted the extender brackets over the BedRug. I ordered the brackets from AMP that is for the Tundra that bolts to the tie down bolts. Simply removed the tie downs and after the BedRug install, used an awl to punch holes through the liner to reinstall the tie downs with the AMP brackets. Did the same for the front tie downs as well.

 

Do you happen to have a pic of these brackets . . . I am attempting to re-use brackets from my RAM, but if there is a cleaner install method . . . I might try it. Thanks!

 

There is a left and right bracket so you must order both. I don’t remember the part numbers off the top of my head, but I called and ordered directly from AMP. The sales rep that answered was a Tundra owner and knew exactly what I was talking about before I finished the sentence.

 

I got one for free with my Retrax Pro purchase last year. I love it. Like everybody else says, it doesn't hurt when you are crawling around back there and it seems to keep things from sliding. Mine was free (with purchase) but I wouldn't hesitate to buy another in the future.
I installed mine over the spray-in bed liner and it holds fine with the velcro.

 

Now that is what I need . . . I have the standard brackets from my RAM mount . . . but that could get messy, measuring and drilling new holes into the bed sidewall . . . I'll drop them an email and see if I Can get these . . . thanks.
